We get a good QB to not only push TD but for depth. Have my fingers crossed on Cade Fortin. Have had little feedback on Summers progress.

Any word on how the in home visit went Monday, did they get the kids all the paperwork he needed to enroll here next month?

If I was Dino and Martin I wouldn't have left until the admissions paperwork was signed, lol

Ideally we'd get a QB this class too, but if not we will definitely need two in 2021

I want to see us get another dual threat QB like Dungey. I know I'll take flak for this, but from my eyes, an efficient, dual threat QB in this offense is wayyyyy more difficult to defend than more of a traditional, pocket-based QB.

That would be my BIGGEST priority if I'm Dino right now. That and a big ass NT.

100%. At Syracuse in order to compete with the top of the ACC need a dual threat in order to make a few plays out of nothing.

a dual threat QB is what we know, both recently and historically... but plenty of other programs all over the country are very successful with a QB as accurate as TD. If the OL can get to serviceable and our blitz pickup gets better, we’re fine.

nassib couldn’t run and was fine

Nassib was in a different system than what Devito has. Also, Nassib had a very good OL in 2012.

I'm convinced a dual threat QB is perfect for this system. Dungey obviously had his flaws, but him being able to extend the play with his legs forced the linebackers/secondary to stay on their toes and open things up for the pass catchers.

He was also surprisingly mobile when needed.

He was such an underrated QB in the system.

Doug had a good thing going. We would always be in that 5-9 win range under him.

I think that's where we are now with Dino. 5 -10 win range year over year

I hear you. But that’s the flip side of the “dual threats always kill us” arguement. If all the good fast dual threats could throw, we’d be in business. It’s always a tradeoff.

Give me another year or two with TD and then decide.

(Also to your point, Amie is proof Dino isn’t against the idea)

I just wonder why Fortin would transfer here unless given a number of convincing reasons.

If he wants to start he shouldn’t come here. Unless...

Because they can guarantee him some packages he'd play in regardless and if he wins in the spring or fall, it's his job to lose?

Even if he loses the competition to TD, at worst, he's our #2 and 1 injury away from getting snaps. Also, he has 1 more year of eligibility than Tommy, so even if he lost, he'd be the front runner to succeed him.

I am a big Ryan fan. Nassib was a lot of things but mobil wasn't one of them. Not even surprisingly.

As we all know, a pocket passer needs an OL to be effective while the "duel threat" can usually improvise and make something out of nothing. I'm not sure I want to see a duel threat guy that runs too much and is inconsistent far too often with his throws.

We've seen a lot of different types of QB at SU and let's face it...the chances of always having a solid OL are few and far between of late.

Of course everybody would like a guy that can run for extra yardage or at the very least make the LB's/DB's aware he may take off. That said, at the very very least SU needs a guy that can move the chains by foot or by moving in the pocket and hitting his receivers. The Pitt QB did this very well vs SU and his receivers knew where to go when he delivered the ball.

En garde!

historically, when we were very good we had dual threat qbs, big o lines, pressure defense.

Agreed, but he was a very smart QB that completely understood the system and would keep the ball on read options just enough to keep defenses honest, especially in critical situations.

He always made the right reads at the LOS and got the offense in the correct play. That is something TD needs to work on.

TD needs us to have a good run game to keep the D honest. The last three games of the season looked like we could pound the rock and the offense came alive. Unfortunately TD was already to banged up by that point.

Who on Fortin's list can guarantee him a starting spot? Not Vanderbilt. Not Kansas. Who can tell him that he'd be #2 right out of the gate with an open competition to start next year? Well all three schools will likely tell him that he will have an opportunity to win the job but maybe only at Kansas could he be #2 immediately. At Syracuse, it's a definite. Our QB depth chart is embarrassing for a P5 program. By contrast, we're looking pretty good right now for next year at WR/TE. It's an ideal situation for a transfer.

OP I feel fielding a offensive line that can block is the more pressing issue. TD will come along just fine if he's offered just remotely decent protection.

It really improved after the center/OT swap, and having the freshman OT take over for the senior quitter matador.

An improved OL would make all the difference, however, we don't have WRs that can break press coverage against better corners (Clem, FSU, etc). Tommy could have all the time in the world, but there still needs to be a hole to throw it to. I'm not as convinced a pocket passer works unless the overall talent amongst those skill positions improves.
