I'd take that backcourt over this one any daypearl31 said:Addendum... that team had a better inside presence (senior Rick Jackson, Freshman Fab Melo) but arguably had a less potent/productive backcourt (Scoop, Triche and Waiters who was in the doghouse most of that season basically until the post-season). Anyway, that team with comparable talent/prospects/daunting schedule was in a prolonged deep funk and righted the ship and made the tourney. :noidea: Let's see what happens.
Maybe, and I'd have to compare the numbers, and I recognize there's certainly a stronger PG presence with that backcourt, but I feel like this '15-'16 backcourt at least has more firepower.I'd take that backcourt over this one any day
sure, but if you look at the quality of that team's pre-conf wins it's about the same as this year's. Obviously a couple of bad losses pre-conf this year compared to none that year. And that team was ranked so highly because of how good the previous year's team was, and a somewhat deceptive "big" win early in the season vs an overrated Mich St team.#3 ranking when that streak started, much more margin for error than this year. that was an awful stretch though. impressive they were able to get a 3 seed despite losing 6 out of 8.
Not saying the circumstances or the competition or the team are the same. But still, take a look at this stretch put up by the 2010-11 team:

That was the knucklehead freshman Dion, remember. Not sure how that would work out if you could plug those three in for our two 5th year guards.Give me Scoop, Triche, Waiters ALL DAY LONG and TWICE ON SUNDAY. If we could have that backcourt we wouldn't be on the bubble come March.
Dion played 16.3 mpg that season. He was definitely a rotation player. He wasn't Sophomore Waiters but the guy played. Dion's PER was 12.7 that is solid for a 3rd guard.Dion barely played that year.
Triche was good, but he went through a cold stretch in that streak. I remember scoop being so bad in that seton hall game that some publications suggested he was shaving points. That seton hall game was at the Dome and has to be the worst loss we have had in the past ten years besides DePaul.
Those guys could all go to the hoop and handle the ball, but none of them are beating Mike or Trevor in a shooting contest.
And those numbers are cumulative for that whole season, right? Not just the first 1/3 or so?Dion played 16.3 mpg that season. He was definitely a rotation player. He wasn't Sophomore Waiters but the guy played. Dion's PER was 12.7 that is solid for a 3rd guard.
Triche averaged 12.7 ppg and 3 apg on 35% from 3 and had a PER of 15.9
Scoop averaged 12.5 ppf and 5.9 apg on 36% from 3 and had a PER of 16.0
Those guards are a lot better than our 3 guards this year.
We aren't in the first 1/3 or so we have played 17 of 31 games. That is over 1/2 the season and the stats aren't going to change that much in conference as we play at a slow tempo. Our guards are the strength of this year's team but I believe its fairly obvious the 2011 guards were better. And those numbers are cumulative for that whole season, right? People can disagree but I would take 2011 without hesitating.
I agree with that premise. That Hall game was an outlier though they started off ridiculous from 3. They came out and couldn't miss a shot. I think the St. John's loss this year was worse. That team scored 48 against Wagner the game before and lost to Incarnate Word by 22 after the Syracuse wi.I dont disagree that on the whole they may have necessarily been better, but they were not good during that 8 game stretch, especially scoop. That Seton Hall game was worse than any loss we have had this year. Maybe there is some hope?
The biggest difference in those two teams is definately Rick
Jackson. I'd take him over Roberson any day.

Seriously, are you trying to give me PTSD?Not saying the circumstances or the competition or the team are the same. But still, take a look at this stretch put up by the 2010-11 team:

Of course you don't. The season was over two weeks ago and what's the point.I don't see a comparison at all.

Indeed.Haha. Unreal.
