In an attempt to make this look not quite so bad

I would disagree on the "comparable talent" statement. In reality, that's all that matters.

That team was 20-6 after that slumo and 7-6 in a loaded conference. They were almost a clear in even if they were sliding hard. Remember that an 8-10 record in the regular season would have got them in. The Storrs Thieves were 9-9 and got a 3 seed that year. I am not sure if this is the year Nova took the massive slide down the stretch but still got in as well.

Michigan/Michigan St wins were not much different than Texas AM / UConn, with no blemishes like St. John's (and of course 0-2 agaisnt G'Town and Wisconsin)

Overall, I just don't see the comparison - they were in really good shape after 26 games and we clearly will not be after 26 games.

Not to say we don't have a chance to make it (the season is more than 26 games)-- but if we make in we will be fighting and scratching right down to the end.

oh I'm not saying overall resume - although (and there's certainly no way to prove it either way) I absolutely contend that A&M/uconn this year as OOC wins is much better than Mich/Mich St that year (Mich was awful that year)... mostly just trying to point out that there are historical examples of a JB team, with less than ideal personnel and in a really tough conference, going into a deep funk and then righting things by season's end.
I vividly remember the '10-'11 season, I attended the game @ Marquette, and that team flat out stunk during that 8-game span.

That Hall game was an outlier though they started off ridiculous from 3.

I just read the recap for that game and found this line: "Seton Hall never allowed the Orange to get closer than 17 in the final 12 minutes as the Orange faithful began leaving early, a rarity in the Carrier Dome."

LOL, a rarity?
