In my opinion, I do not want the court moved for duke

This is going to be awesome and awful all at once. It'll be awesome looking on TV, but dreadful for those in attendance.

It's going to happen. I hear it'll be simply courtside seats around the court then a whole lot of space between those seats and the bleachers. No temp bleachers at all.

Perfect. Out of all the misguided, foolish possibilities, this would be the worst.

Damn.

IF THIS IS TRUE...

I will still go, I will still root for Syracuse. But the SU athletic department
deliberatedly and willfully misled me, waiting to broach the topic and start the process until a couple of days after season ticket renewals were due.

I find this kind of behavior to be highly unprofessional, disgraceful and a slap in the face to a long time supporter of the program and the university.

I can understand the Georgetown athletic department treating SU fans like this. I did not expect it from the Syracuse athletic department.

Students standing on the floor behind the courtside seats. And bands at the ends.

No temporary bleachers. Lots of empty floor.

Going to be ugly, especially if they can't find 35,000 people to buy single-game seats.

Wouldnt matter. Its the two winningest coaches of all time, two of the top 10 programs of all time, etc.
There is also ZERO Chance either of us are ranked #17 or worse.

This is 100% the game of the year for ESPN. They would salivate over it. Gameday would be there. The world would be watching. SO yes, without question the biggest regular season game in 25 years. Maybe longer.

Saying on August 5th, that this game will be, "without question the biggest regular season game in 25 years" takes absurdity to an all-time high. And saying that there is "ZERO chance" either team is ranked #17 or worse leads me to believe you haven't been watching college basketball for very long. This team, while very talented on paper and full of potential, has some questions to answer. All it takes is one season-ending injury, an academic issue to a key player, or a love triangle to derail a season.

It is a unique PR opportunity that should be taken advantage of. College basketball is all about recruiting and recruiting is all about image. This is a business. Think like a businessman. This is priceless PR.
Upperdeck has a great solution for season ticket holders.
We don't need gimmicks to help our recruiting. We've been recruiting at a very high level the last few years.

What's so unique? It's a conference game, not a once-in-a-lifetime event. We're going to play Duke again. At home. Are we going to move the court every time we play Duke just because it's Duke?

A businesswoman doesn't pissoff those who pay the bills in favor of those who are only enticed by a one-time gimmick. Especially those who have already paid their bill!! They are the bread-and-butter of the AD revenue, because they can be counted on to show up more than once. How many of those single-game fans will purchase season tix? How about promoting a full schedule of great games instead of one game?

Recruits will come because of the opportunity to play the schedule and play it in the dome. If one game is going to make a difference in their decision, that's pretty sad. In fact, if I were a recruit, I'd think twice about joining a program that would make such stupid decisions, LOL

If they aim for a crowd of ~50K, expect at least 10K of that to be Duke fans. There are plenty of em in and around the NY/NJ area.

How many watched the Astrodome game in 68 Hayes (Houston) vs Alcinder (UCLA)?

As someone who has attended numerous Buffalo Sabres games over the years at HSBC / First Niagara Arena, and also was fortunate enough to attend the 1st NHL "Winter Classic" on New Year's Day, 2008 at Ralph Wilson Stadium - I must say that I do not remember hearing many people complain about being further away from the action on that great day - and that is the best comparison that I can think of to try & gauge what the experience may be like if this happened.

Suffice it to say, in my opinion, being a little further away from the action at Ralph Wilson Stadium was MORE THAN offset by the excitement generated in being able to witness something that had never been done before (not counting the 2001 Michigan/Michigan State outdoor game or the 2003 Montreal Canadiens/Edmonton Oilers Heritage Classic) live, with 70,000 other fans in such a different setting.

Yes, it is sort of "gimmicky" - but when you're there, in the moment, you really don't care - you just can't help but become infected with the excitement and "buzz" that comes along with something new & different - a true "event".

And now I can forever say I attended the 1st NHL Winter Classic hockey game, which I think is pretty cool.

I'd have to think being able to say I saw the first conference meeting of Duke vs Syracuse, with 2 Hall of Fame coaches (who also happen to be facing each other for the first time as current holders of Most Wins in NCAA D1 History & 2nd Most Wins in NCAA D1 History - I'd imagine this would also be the first time this ever happened), with the largest on-campus crowd ever recorded - a virtually un-breakable 50,000 - would also be worth the slight inconvenience that may be experienced to make it all happen. I know I'd be driving up from Buffalo with family to be apart of it all.

And I wouldn't even have to wear my father's one-piece, bright orange hunting gear to the game either this time (like I did to the Winter Classic) - although that was kinda fun too! Hell, maybe I still will wear it to the Cuse game...haha. Right colors!

This statement shows you knowing little to nothing about college basketball. Just as a reminder, just last season when Syracuse went to the Final Four in the final regular season poll Syracuse was ranked #19 AP, #20 USA Today.

Raises hand.

TVS, I belive, with Dick Enberg and Bob Pettit on the call.

I remember the old days when they said on the radio during SU games..."It's time for a Bill Orange break." What exactly did that mean?

The events you mention, did they happen after donors and season ticket holders had paid and had the impression that they would witness those events from the seats they pay for and not 20-30 yards further away?

No, I do not believe that was the case. And I do agree with your point that it would be unprofessional / not proper operating procedure to make such a change after collecting money from season ticket holders. You have a point there.

But I also believe that your point about money being collected already (which is valid, as I mentioned) is also being used a bit as an excuse to justify feelings about this idea - I very much doubt you (or, season ticket holders in general) would be much happier had this been announced way ahead of time & before money was collected. I believe the change in seat location is most likely the main "gripe" here - although I could be wrong (just my opinion).

We don't need gimmicks to help our recruiting. We've been recruiting at a very high level the last few years.

Duke is involved with twice as many 5 star players as we are. We only have one NC. How many do they have? Our recruiting has room for improvement. Anything that helps recruiting is extremely important. Its all about name recognition and prestige.

This game represents a unique opportunity to garner publicity and creed. In terms of recruiting we are just one notch below the top rung and need to do everything we can to take the next step. Seize the moment.
Will this game eventually be forgotten? Of course. Will a 50,000 gate garner a ton of PR? Most certainly. Might it make the difference for some recruits that are sitting on the fence? It will make a difference for some. Does more talent lead to better recruiting in the future? Yes. Would another NC boost season ticket sales? Yes.

Some of them are saying that they will come if there is room. No need to worry about empty seats.

Geez, that's an awful lot of pressure to place on one single game. I hope it performs well.

Duke is loaded. They will likely be top ten. We are now in the ACC. Competition is a lot less than the old Beast. We are not playing Yukon, Georgetown or the Ville. Who might beat us except Duke? NCU is down. The Maui field is not that strong and Mr. November is Mr November for a reason. No guarantees, but of all years this is a likely one where both teams will be top 10 when they meet.

This logic is flawed. Every team SU plays "might" beat them. The chances may be slim to none, but the possibility exists. Also, playing ACC teams on the road is by no means an easy feat. There are no empty arenas to take over (St. Johns, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Nova, etc.). These are all HOSTILE environments.
