In the Path of Ian.....

In Naples, we are getting wind gusts @81 MPR with loads of rain!
I have a friend whose home is in Naples but she is up in the Syracuse area right now.

In case folks don't know, this Waffle House thing is a real thing. Major storm predictor. :)
Yep, you're absolutely right.

The index is based on Waffle House's reputation for having good disaster preparedness and staying open during extreme weather or reopening quickly afterwards.

If you get there and the Waffle House is closed? That's really bad...[7]
— Craig Fugate, Former Head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency

Levels[edit]

The index has three levels, based on the extent of operations and service at the restaurant following a storm:[7][8][9]

  • GREEN: full menu – Restaurant has power and damage is limited or no damage at all.
  • YELLOW: limited menu – No power or only power from a generator, or food supplies may be low.
  • RED: the restaurant is closed – Indicates severe damage or severe flooding.

landfalling now. Reports are 10'+ of storm surge, and when the western eye wall lands, they are saying it could get to 18' of storm surge. Can't even imagine. Various local stations predicting this to be the costliest hurricane in the state EVER.

and this in a state whose homeowners insurance system is a disaster

There's a lot of crews from out of state over here in Miami waiting for the storm to end and go to SWFL to help.
Gotta love our country. There was, at last notice, 28 states that have sent some type of disaster relief and personnel to Florida to assist once they can actually get out safely to do so. Right now on the border of Sarasota County and Manatee county even the emergency response people and police have been pulled into safe places. It is too dangerous to be out. These photos do not show the rain pelting down and the debris flying by very well. But then I took them through the windows. Suffice it to say I wont be going out to get the mail anytime soon.
