I'm pleased that after getting down big, instead of folding out players fought all the way back and had a chance to win.

But damn -- talk about shooting ourselves in the foot...

9 for 18 from the FREE THROW line -- and they call them "free" points for a reason -- in a close loss, is tough to fathom.

Also 5 of 21 from three. Hideous shooting from deep all game long.

Maybe the 15 minutes this team actually played well will spark them. I sure hope so.

But there’s soooo many holes. Lots of guys who should be 8th/9th rotation players but have to get minutes.

It just isn't good.

Sometimes games come down to a couple possessions. We had a lead and bell got a decent look at three. Not a wide open look, but a good one. He missed, then Lampkij got confused on a switch and wide open jumper for Texas. That and the two miscommunications that led to easy dunks for the Texas big man really hurt.

FTs, obviously, are mystifying.

Don’t think we’re good but that was a more credible effort than the first three games and the two exhibitions. So that’s something.

I'll emphasize it again, WE CAN'T MISS FT"S!

Probably the guy that had one of the top 5 three point shooting seasons in school history last year.
Yeah that guy…good lord our fans
He's shown he can be an elite threat from 3. He's shown good athleticism at times. The chase down and weak side blocks are exciting when they happen. He will have games this year where he hits 7+ from deep.

But, he is without question one of the lowest bball IQ players I have witnessed. I think the box score showed 3 turnovers, but there were many more negative plays that do not show up in the box score as a turnover.

This was probably his worst game in terms of consistently making impactful losing plays.

The fans aren’t the ones who apparently decided that Bell is expected to be a 5 tool player this season.

He’s a shooter. That should be his role. And if he’s not shooting well… shrug.
The refusal of some to simply say “I was wrong“ is astounding.

CHRIS BELL CAN‘T/DOESN’T REBOUND OR PLAY DEFENSE.

if you still debate this, you don’t understand basketball. I’m sorry, that’s where we are at with this.

free throws killed us, and it’s why we lost the game. But we finally showed we could play good and intense defense! But now where’s the dang offense, especially in the first half?

And here’s a shocking stat that’s incredibly disappointing. Choppa Moore, Lucas Taylor and Jaquan Carlos combined to play 50 minutes, and the three of them scored a grand total of 3 points! (Plus 2 assists and 4 rebounds.) that’s a freakin joke. I appreciate Taylor’s excellent defense all game long, but that offensive output is unacceptable for all three of them. We need those guys to produce some offense when they’re in the game, and all of them are capable of scoring. So get it together.

Chris Bell still can’t rebound. 2 boards in 30 minutes. I can’t figure out what Red saw in this guy.
He does way too much ball watching on rebounds. Attack the glass my man. Look at how that Shedrick kid did it. That said, Bell will figure out his shooting and get back on track soon. This slow start can’t last much longer.

Absolutely encouraged by the comeback-- wasn't sure this team had that in them--but I think the most surprising outcome for me tonight was how a team as incredibly flawed as we are could play a game just absolutely wrought with a bad roster and bad basketball play...and still somehow almost beat ...Texas?

I guess my biggest takeaway from the game was Texas is also just not a very good team. Two good players and a bunch of mostly JAGs.

Stayed for the incredible second game and afterwards bet immediately that those two teams (TT, the best team in the tourney imo, and Saint Joseph's) will both easily cover tomorrow night. Texas -8.5 seems a bit much to me. Would have been interested to see a Saint Joseph's v Cuse spread.

Every coach is trying to make their guys better all around. I’m not sure the point here

You were "oh lording" our fans for wondering what Bell brings to the team if he's not hitting 3s.

It appears that the staff has determined that Bell must be a key cog on the team as a multi-faceted player. I don't see any evidence that Bell is an all-around contributor. His defense, rebounding, and general floor IQ is lousy. If he's not raining 3s he's a net negative.

So maybe we can acknowledge that instead of ripping "our fans" for wondering why he's being expected to do a lot more than he seems capable of.

Look at the heat this fan base gave Buddy. Theoretically he’s the same player as Bell. Although, I’ll contend Buddy was a much much better player overall he still was routinely razed here. I’m personally not a Bell guy, he’s just way too one dimensional.
