According to Rahme's latest articles tonight, looks like we have a couple of nagging injuries. And guess who is on that list? I'm really hoping Shamarko can have one last hurrah this year and end with a completely injury free year. Its worrisome that he's already dinged up but sounds like it isn't considered major. Other than that, sounds like Rene and Sloan may be the most serious to this point.
Other notes from tonights articles:
(1) The press was allowed to watch a whole practice. Color me shocked
(2) Love to hear that Keon Lyn seems to be having a good camp. I've been high on him and think he's been a bit of a forgotten man from our fan base. Those who don't think he will be a starter are nuts IMO.
(3) Very excited to hear about Jarrod West having a good camp. Really want to see a 3rd receiver (at least) step up and be semi-useful. I feel good about Sales and Lemon, but we need a West, Kobena, Hale, or Fleming to really elevate their games. Sounds like we may be seeing that

Sounds like Rene is out for a while. The article made it seems like he was missing games, perhaps even the season.

With Steve Rene out with an upper-body injury, Morris could see opportunity knocking for playing time this season.

Does this knock team down to four scholorship running backs and Broyld. If anyone else gets hurt does Mcfarlane have to do his best Diamond Ferri impression.

Bad news no Rene, guy never muffs a punt. Hope he can get back soon we dont need players out for the year allready.

If we're unfortunately going to lose a RB, Rene is the guy. Let's hope the others stay healthy and GMIII is able to RS.

kcsu can get his wish of another punt returner now.

True, he never muffs punts. But he seemingly never returns them either. He's a fair-catch machine.

Question, when Rene got Shamwow'd at fanfest did he get hit in the head or the shoulder? Are we talking concussion or shoulder injury?

That's been true for SEVERAL years.

Shoulder. Looked like a sprain the way he was walking on the sideline.

True but a lot of that has to do with the horrible punt return team, if you go back and look at the games last year 95% of the time when he caugh the punt 2 or more guys were a foot away from him. The one time he did try to return the punt he nearly was decapitated. If we can give him some actual time this year he may surprise if healthy.

Lack of blocking and space, you cant return punts if half the punt team is in your face everytime you catch it. Still after watching the disaster that was the punt return team under Grob I will take a fair catch any day versus a fumble.

Exactly.

While not ideal I will take a guy who isn't that explosive but catches punts as opposed to a more explosive guy who costs us 10-15 yards on bounces when they aren't caught.

Yeah, just to be clear, I wasn't calling out Rene specifically [he's done a nice job as you point out]--just commenting that it has been a LONG time since we've had a dangerous punt return threat. Given how important field position is to our anemic offense, this missing component is a huge liability.

I agree at this point we should be able to at least set up a couple returns a game. Specials are going to be under the microscope big time this year the PR team included.

Not to be overly dramatic, but special teams could literally be the difference in a couple of W's versus L's this year.

Need to improve this year.

Not overly dramatic at all. Special teams wins and losses games on a regular basis in college football.

Lack of quality depth would seem to be a big factor in the production or lack there of in Specials. Hopefully our full roster this year means we can turn the corner with our return teams.

Absolutely agree! If Norton is as good as advertised, that should significantly improve the KO coverage team. Remember, this will be HCDM's first year with a full roster which should help shore-up ST's overall.

Completely agree--another benefit of having a full roster is having lots more quality athletes / speed on hand for specials.

There's that myth again. The full roster wont play.
