At least 3 de-commits broke the top 50. That must count for something.

I really don't know the methodology behind these lists at all, but looks since last year, Levandowski rose from 79 to 67 and Michael Page dropped from 80 to off the list. Aviles and Thompson weren't on last year's list at all.

Strange similarity from the 2019 to the 2020 list in terms of where players are ranked. Birstwistle really looks like a good player, it does not look like he was ranked last year. Drago drops from 84 to 99 and Erlbeck drops from 81 to off the list. Kol was not on last year's list. Still, two years of having only three Top 100 players is tough, lots of pressure on the coaches to bring in top end talent for 2021. I think Maher and Hay are the two biggest losses from the "Group of five" (including Zawada and Blake) as lefty attackman will be a massive hole in next year's lineup. As stated previously by others, Seebold and Swenson are the only two slated to be on the team next year.

It would be nice for IL to explain their reasoning behind why guys fall or rise on these lists, but instead you're left with no explanation other than a number next to someones name. Even in general terms it would be nice to hear something along the lines of, "Player x dropped because we realized he can't go left", or "Player Z rose in the rankings because he grew 4 inches and uses his size a lot better than a year ago". But again, no accountability and IL looks like they are throwing darts at a dart board.

Although, I am not convinced that I really what to hear the explanation, because they might annoy me also.

The Terps recruits have done a lot of jumping around also. Pallonetti had a huge drop from #9 to #45. It is true that Pallonetti's numbers dropped off a bit this Spring, but still dropping a guy that far is admitting that you were clueless the previous fall - leading to the thought of why should we believe your rankings this time around? Justin Sherrer drops from #41 to #56, yet is again HS AA for Georgia, and has some nice highlights up. Kelan Duff drops totally out of the rankings, despite being on a top Culver team.
Then you get to the rising seniors, Jack Koras makes the cut to 50 for the U-19 team, while Malever doesn't. Koras drops from #14 to #18, while also being named one of the 5 HS AAs from the MIAA. Malever stays at #4. Go figure that out. Goforth drops from #18 to #44, while being named the only junior midfield among the Phlly All-Americans and on the All-Philly team.

Does anyone ever go back and check to see how these rankings pan out?

Surprised Hay is that high to be honest. Good player but he made a nice jump to get up there. Think he may end up here eventually once his brother graduates. Maher and White those ones really hurt.

SU has to get a lefty attackmen in the 2021 class. I know they brought in Jack Wood to replace Zawada at attack but pretty sure he is a righty. Birtwistle looks like an absolute steal at this point after losing Hay. He and Ferrir look like a great attack combo not to mention Erlbeck. To bad about the middie who decided to play Football, he had UA potential.

Really a question of if he is big and strong enough to do the back down his man routine in college like Randy Staats and company. If so the rating could be justified. At the very least he has the stick skills, vision, and a very nice shot from outside. Reminds me of Logan Wisnauskas a bit. The jump could be due to him performing well for Victor in the state tourney. Ty Xanders doesn't respect Upstate NYers until they play/do well against Long Island competition (only half joking).
As for him leaving to come here I think there is a special circle of hell reserved for guys who transfer between SU and UAlbany. Would be great but that is a tough conversation to have with Marr and your UAlbany friends. Don't really see it happening.

Your right, not many Albany to Syracuse or vice versa transfers. That said you get the feeling he's headed to Albany more from a family standpoint then a program standpoint. Assuming SU can put together a nice run these next few seasons and Albany continues to struggle to replace Fields, Ierlan and crew etc don't be surprised. If were to tell you Ierlan was gonna leave you would have thought I was crazy.

I looked at it a while back for 2006 and 2007, using making All-American as my metric. I found that the top 20 had a 50-60% chance of making AA, 21-40 had around a 30% chance,
and the lower sets had a low percentage of making the AA list.
I have only done the 2017, 2018 and 2019 All-Americans, looking back at the top 100 for 2015, but the pattern remains about the same::

It’s even interesting to go through these lists and see how many names you even recognize as guys that have played in games

I would strongly disagree that the rankings are in many ways meaningless. Go back and look and you’ll see Virginia dominating recruiting the past few years (look where it got them). Now you’ll also see Hopkins doing well (look where they are). Syracuse’s last two championships came on the backs of the greatest ranked recruiting class probably ever. To me Syracuse’s biggest issue is they have not recruited an elite attackman since Kevin Rice. We have survived on transfers for far too long. Luckily we have a new recruiting coordinator. The next two classes will tell if we are headed in the right direction.
