Beasts 8, Coastal Patriots 7 (OT)

The Beasts needed overtime to grit out a win over the Coastal Patriots in a back-and-forth, tightly contested game. Face-offs were even most of the game, so each team had their chances to possess the ball and had their chances on goal.

Cade Stratton (Marquette) sealed the game in overtime from a feed from Gavin Garrity-Rokous (Georgetown). Stratton had two goals and an assists. Another notable from the Beasts was Jonathan Huber (St. John's), who tallied a hat trick from the attack and led the team with those three goals. The defensive unit stepped up big at different points throughout the game, making crucial stops. LSM Chris Walker (Georgetown) and Defenseman Dinio Cijuste locked down the Coastal Patriots on offense most of the game, and Gabe Stein made an impressive save in the overtime period to give the Beasts another chance to seal the game.

On the other side, the Coastal Patriots had a balanced attack throughout the game. They had eight different point scorers, all tallying one point. Connor Morin (Notre Dame) had a nifty backhand finish in the first half after splitting his defender from X. The impressive team performance continued throughout the game at the hands of midfielders Parker Alexander (North Carolina) and Chris Merle (Lafayette), who both had a goal. Two helpers came from Davis Allen and Arden Cohen, two players headed to South Bend in the fall.

No team held more than a one goal lead in the second half, which increased the competitive edge throughout the ladder part of the game, making for a very exciting overtime finish. Full box score

Coastal Patriots 10, Gentlemen 6
It was a close first half with the combined Coastals and Patriots team up 5-4 at the half until a pair of goals on a non-releasable penalty early in the fourth quarter created some separation on the scoreboard. Lafayette-bound Chris Merle (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Notre Dame-bound Davis Allen (Pelham Memorial HS, N.Y.) were able to find the back of the net on step down rips from the outside for those extra man tallies.

A pair of big, future ACC attackmen lead the way for for the Coastals / Patriots team. Syracuse-bound Owen Seebold (Highland Park, Texas) opened up the scoring sweeping left off a pick and burying a shot to the back of the net. He then found Notre Dame commit Connor Morin (Morristown Beard, N.J.) for the games second goal. Morin lead all scorers with a pair of goals and three assists and scored or assisted on four of his teams’ five second half goals.

The Gentlemen got a pair of points from three players, including a pair of future Jacksonville Dolphin midfielders out of Texas, Cody Foster (Plano West, Texas) and Jeremy Winston (Parish Episcopal, Texas). Foster found the back of the net twice on unassisted dodges including a backhand finish and Winston had a goal and a assist in addition to creating a fast break goal. Full box score

Ancients 11, Coastals 7
The Ivy League Ancients got off to a great start at the Epoch Inside Lacrosse Committed Academy, coming back to top the ACC Coastals 11-7. Down 2-0 before even possessing the ball, the Ancients slowly worked their way back into the game with some consistent success at the face-off X coming from Zac Tucci (Harvard).

Matt Brandau feasted off-ball, making timely cuts and delivering three goals while Brady McDermott pitched in two goals and two assists. Colby Gendron (Brown) and Nick Loring (Harvard) both scored two goals. Sean Kuttin (Yale) and Brian Antonelli (Brown) scored once. Daniel Hincks (Dartmouth) also stood tall in the second half and made seven saves on two goals against.

Coastals 8, Gentlemen 5
The Coastals jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead that they would never relenquish on their way to an 8-5 win over the SoCon Gentlemen.

A pair of Syracuse commits lead the scoring with four points each for the Coastals. Attackman Mikey Berkman (West Orange HS, Fla.) had a goal and three assists and Tyler Lawton (New Providence, N.J.) had three goals and an assist running out of the box. UNC-bound Chris Nicholas (Chaminade, N.Y.) added a hat trick including a rocket of a step down into the top shelf.

Duke-bound goalie Andrew Bonafede (Chaminade, N.Y.) and Syracuse-bound Shahe Katchadurian (John Jay, N.Y.) held down the defensive end for the Coastals splitting halves and combining to make 11 saves while allowing just the 5 goals against.

For the Gentlemen, it was a balanced attack with points from six different players. Four different players found the back of the net, including Bellarmine commit Riley Seay (Wando HS, S.C.) twice and an impressive shot fading away from the cage as he turned the corner from X by future Richmond Spider Jack Delligatti (Greensboro Day School, N.C.). Epoch IL Committed Academy: Future College Stars Who Stood Out Saturday

Jacob Walthour, Salisbury School (Conn.), LSM — Syracuse
He is such a terror — super athletic and superb at fundamentals. Tremendously good footwork allows him to stay in stride with nearly any opponent. He makes a ton of plays in the middle of field, wether it be clears, groundballs, or transition offense where he's a threat to score.

Andrew Kim, M, Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) — Syracuse
A big presence and tough to handle given such a large build. Uses his size and power to ram through defenders. Shows glimpses of strong step-down shooting.

Mikey Berkman, A, West Orange (Fla.), Syracuse
He took an early role as the ACC Coastals 2018 quarterback at Committed Academy and impressed in that position. He possesses good strength and use his frame to post up, but you can't sleep on his quickness. Connected on a handful of pretty assists, displaying good vision and passing ability.
