For the love of god, someone please explain to me why a fan base needs to be instructed on cheers, and really lame cheers at at. ("Wolf" to one side, "Pack" to the other; lean right during free throws, etc). It was seriously lame and the entire NC State fan base should be embarrassed. Granted to start the game I think the NCST fans had a huge impact but as soon as we hit a few shots they got quiet.

Huge SU fan turnout. Several NCST were all talking about 'welcome the ACC' and were mostly met with a resounding 'be careful what you ask for' and then when the Orange Nation warmed up I don't think the NCST faithful were expecting the noise they heard from the SU fan base.

RBC Arena - dislike. seats in 3rd level not fun, parking - meh, lack of pregame locations. $6.50 hotdogs and no beer.

Overall, fantastic to see so many 'Cuse fans. Heading into the arena it truly looked like an SU home game (guess the NCST fans were still tailgating til tip off).

I thought the pre-game was pretty well done, although I agree that it was lame to have someone trying to "teach" the fans how to cheer. On NC State board there are a lot of fans complaining that their crowd was lame. Being there I didn't think that was the case. We were just better and that shut them up. When they were leading in the first half their fans were pretty darn loud.

You realize our cheerleaders do this with the Let's Go S U chant and the We are SU chants.

and I hate those as well to be honest...

My least favorite cheer - no offense, I don't care who does it - it is lame. The students and cheerleaders should get together and think up something new. The crowd will follow. The "Lets" "Go" "S" "U" cheer sounds like a funeral dirge.

The NC State fans that I am friends with said they have never been instructed like that before, and nobody really knew who that guy even was. They were really embarrassed. I'm actually going to post my friends, who is a senior at NC State, facebook status about the game last night. You will see that out of a few bad apples, they actually were pretty respectful.

"NC State has some of the most embarrassing fans. Please learn the game before you come and run your mouth for two hours, dropping bombs and complaining about calls you don't like. Yes, the officials weren't great, but Syracuse was the better team. Also, don't be the guy jumping up yelling for everyone to get pumped when we are on a run then leave before the game is over. Become a true fan and show some class. Also, I would like to thank the entire population of Cary, NC for coming out to support the Orange tonight. Darn yankees."

SU cheerleaders with signs, yes. However sending someone to center court with microphone in hand instructing fans when to cheer for nearly 5 minutes before the game actually starts? If so, I've never seen SU cheerleaders provide that kind of instruction.

Haha, yes it does it is lame

Actually maybe they need some instruction. I was reading on the board that a lot of the NC State fans were embarrassed. They got to the game and all the SU fans were already there yelling,"Let's Go Orange". They didn't know what to make of that. ... and they obviously didn't understand our tradition of standing and clapping until the first basket ... lots of complaints about SU fans standing. What dead heads!!

That cheer is flat out embarrassing and needs to be burned in hell. I refuse to take part in it. Why don't they just let the Sour citrus play more? I mean seriously. I love the dome but the atmosphere fans aside is so weak.

Whenever that cheer starts I want to spin the cheerleaders around faster and faster with those signs to at least get some spirit and life into it. At least then I could laugh if the entire cheer gets messed up and each section is either ahead or behind.

I sent an e-mail asking this question several weeks ago; no reply.

Unlike the horrible commercials and promotions, SU's insistence on playing canned music can't be revenue-related. Perhaps they think that people like it (though I've never met anyone who likes it).

We need much more band music and no dance team/cheerleader nonsense. It's wonderful that we have such a good team this year, because the Dome atmosphere is awful. It's like a Triple-A baseball game without the pleasant summertime weather.

I agree about more band music but the dance team and cheerleaders are an essential part of the college atmosphere too. They just should work together more along with the admins and student body to co-ordinate a great spirited gameday show.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The cheerleaders are great (not sure why we have like 25 of them this year, but they're great). Their new Let's Go SU chant is not great and needs to disappear. But the cheerleaders are integral to the college experience.

I don't feel the same way about the dance team. I'm not sure how such a thing came into existence or why someone thought a dance team would be a positive complement to a college basketball game (so I'm afraid I don't see it as an essential part of the college basketball experience - it's a group that's only been around for 15 years and doesn't add anything to the game).

Even if SU really wants to have a dance team - and, for some reason, thinks that a college basketball game is a great platform for that team - it'd be nice if ours weren't so bad. Their music stinks, the girls are always way out of sync with both the music and each other, and the game management people somehow mangle the musical selection every third game. The whole enterprise is viewed as something of a laughingstock in our section ( and by middle-aged men and women alike).
