Interesting NCAA Column in NYT

You're reaching.

I'm reaching? I think you've been given ample opinion from various posters about why this is not an idea that is embraced by most people. In the end, it is just your opinion that players should be paid. Just as it just my opinion that they should not. I've supported my position. You keep going back to the article, and things that "need to be worked out." I think it's a horrible idea. You obviously don't. We are at an impasse.

You keep dropping myth after myth. I suggest reading through the website I linked.
Just because 2 guys have an agenda and put up a website to support that agenda doesn't make it so.

Just because you buy in to their scheme doesn't mean that the rest of the world needs to act as sheep and follow you (and them) off the cliff.

It's clear that you, and some others, want to see college football and men's college basketball run as true professional sports leagues... at the cost of everything else. Many (most?) here do not. College presidents, conferences, and I suspect most alumni, do not.

I suggest that you, and your buddies, go set up professional sports leagues for the post-high school athletes and try to recruit athletes to play in those leagues. If there are good athletes in these leagues then I'm sure the NBA & NFL will draft players from those leagues (just as they draft players from foreign leagues today (NBA, NHL, etc.). There's the free market mechanism that you were looking for. Good luck!

My $0.02 on the subject...

There are greater injustices in the world than spoiled amateur jocks not receiving a cut of revenue after receiving a free college education and limitless perks and opportunities during their four years and beyond.

Cry me a freakin' river...

I've realized I've brought more negativity into this thread than good-hearted debate. We all disagree on a fundamental level and judging by the lack of people on my side, I am posting on the wrong message board. Things are getting heated and I think that is unfortunate considering how amazing the team is playing.

I apologize to rrlbees for saying I won't reply to your posts, that was harsh and mean-spirited. To everybody else, I still disagree but I don't believe I should be bringing out these emotions in people since college basketball means so much to all of you, and it is a very brutal and harsh topic.

I'm willing to move on and focus purely on the positive, which is the amazing run the team is on, that cheers me up every time I need a boost :)
