Interview with Fran coming up in about 30 minutes

Isn't it great how he really knows our past. Not just his era too. All the way back.
Yeah it’s really amazing and means that he really understands the fan base and the university. We have a history of getting complacent in Football. We reach or get very close to reaching goals and don’t put the work and investment to sustain and set and reach new goals. I feel that Fran Brown gets that and I think as long as we don’t get complacent in actions, Fran Brown and the program will feed off it. There is simply not many coaches out there that would have the gall to come into Syracuse for an interview with the vision he has in the first place. We will be at the center of a College Football sea change if Fran’s vision comes to fruition. That’s what this is about.

"I think our administration, our Board of Trustees, I think they’ll always handle their end of the deal. So if we’re all handling our end of the deal, why would I leave?"

Sounds like things have been done correctly through year 1 based on the full quote.

If Fran needs $4-5m/year more for everything eventually to compete, that money will be recouped by the school with continued football success. It's a no brainer.
Let's hope so.

Why don't you just wait a couple of years and see what happens before going off the deep end?
You can come back later, let the rest of us enjoy what Fran is doing.
Not near any deep ends, much less going off. Sorry.

Spot on! If we win we will get more than enough money through the next ACC deal to compete as will have increased ratings and post season success. Both of which are going to increase our take of the ACC Rev

Im hopeful that if and when Fran is extended it is done under JW control. I hope that JW sticks around for another 5 plus years

Because... people who are smart leaves themselves an out. And he did. Syracuse barely invests... do you really think that they are suddenly going to start competing with even Duke FOOTBALL on NIL? UNC is throwing tons of money at football. We are dropping like a Wile E Coyote anvil in hoops. Let alone trying to keep up with the big dogs in football.

This is him saying a real smart thing and warning the administration that it will be their fault if he leaves. If you do not want to see it or like living in fantasy land, that is your choice.
We have no choice but to invest right now given the changing landscape. If we don't invest, we lose the revenue source forever. And it hurts academic recruiting. Big time college sports is a must for our student body. If we don't have it, we're another average university in the northeast. It's critical we invest now and football drives the bus. It's going to matter for at least the next decade too. The school is all in.

Fran is VERY open and honest about what he needs with JW and all the big time supporters. I believe he will follow through on our end -- but it also takes a lot of us supporting the program. I've gladly ponied up more because I believe in Fran and the job he's doing, and the type of program he wants to build. He's not doing this for the short term -- he really wants to win a national title here.

A reliable poster said ADJW was probably retiring after his son graduates next year. But besides that, I have no idea why you'd want him around another 5 years. The Fran hire looks great, but I want no part of him picking the next basketball coach. Not confident that lightning will strike twice for him. I think it's apparent now he's not some conference realignment guru who is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

No one knows, including you.

It was pretty widely circulated that Nebraska offered him in the neighborhood of $2M -
That’s a nice neighborhood!!

And more than a few “people who know things” related to Cuse football have said that he got over $1M to come here.
(IIRC some said it was more like $1.5M in total).

Kyle himself said the relationships and the opportunity were the most important part of his decision.

So while we certainly didn’t lowball him, we also didn’t have to match his highest offer.

But I’m just a guy on a message board,
and I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night,
so take my opinions with a pound of
Salt potatoes.

He came at a discount. This is a fact and was alluded to by JW in an article that he came for basically half of what Nebraska offered. However, that's just the number you get from one collective. he obviously made more from other deals too. But the base NIL deal was half of Nebraska

It looks like McCord made a wise investment choice.

Been going to games for 50+ years. Careful. A lot of things have been done on the cheap over that period of time.
going back 50 years is certainly interesting, but IMO college sports is now before NIL/ after NIL. You speak of the NIL deal that McCord got and I would imagine he did take a discount but if you think Syracuse can compete with Big 10 Nebraska when it comes to this stuff, you a probably should reconsider. At the end of the day, the NIL is raised through alumni and fan base, the bigger more ravenous and wealthier the better. Blaming the University is fine but it's really apples and oranges. Either the donor base steps up or they don't but it all comes from the fanbase how big and how much they are willing to give but hey you have been a fan for 50 years so you know this. and again, I am not interested in debating the Coach Mac/ Coach P days or the "get a life" comment. Not interested at all.

IF there was a discount, and I don't think anyone here has access to the numbers no matter what they say, apparently it didn't matter.

The whole think with Kyle was a one off anyway because of Fran's existing relationship with Kyle and his family. Not even worth debating, I highly doubt we see a scenario like that at the QB spot again

correct. it was a highly unusual situation given how bad the Ohio State situation was, a brand new coach who believed in kyle and had a longstanding relationship with, and a unique opportunity for him to come in and do something special. it's just not worth revisiting because it'll never happen again. took the perfect kid and unique set of circumstances. it worked out perfectly for both sides and we won the lottery basically but it's not worth trying to replicate.
