Stewart has become a thug. He just pushes and shoves and shows little basketball skill anymore. He’s trying to play the tough guy act. If Hop had become coach we would have got Stewart. Bryant wanted no part of SU. He wanted to get away from his mother.

I remember [circa 2014] when we lost Thomas Bryant, who seemed like he was going to be a lock for SU given his mom's strong preference for him to go there, that things our problems were beginning to compound. That was also right around the time when:
  • The NCAA was about to drop the hammer on us
  • We were going through our worst season in a long time
  • Top recruit Chris McCullough got injured, and missed most of the year
  • We self-imposed a post-season ban to try to get out in front of impending NCAA penalties
And then we lost Bryant. And it was another gut punch.

There have been some major $!? decisions from leadership at SU. Taking a self imposed ban, (admitting guilt imo by doing so) was dumb dumb. Hindsight, but the NCAA should never be coddled to.

“Failure to monitor” will never be a phrase that ever makes any sense as it relates to punishing sports programs and coaches.

NCAA: Hey, we’re going to make up this thing because we don’t have any actual teeth, so if you don’t know exactly what is happening with every player and every booster and every AD policy at all times, you go straight to jail. We’d hang you publicly if we could. Yeah, we know that CEO’s of billion dollar companies aren’t even held to this standard but we think this seems fair and we did a good job.

I can’t help but like Stewart. The league is more entertaining with a couple loose cannons. Impressive that he has maintained a spot in the league despite having in many ways a limited skill set.

I think the rationale for a self-imposed post-season ban is to give the NCAA the ability to go lighter on the other sanctions, which I don't think they did.
The reality is that weren't making any tourneys that year anyway, so we didn't really give anything away.

Yep had sanctions then too. Hard to get what u want. Still has the 2nd most wins of all time given the awful recruiting he did and terrible coaching and just about everything awful he did while he was our head coach.

Did he mime shooting him with a gun? Twice? There’s got to be some behind the scenes, non-basketball stuff going on there.

My point was that these were a couple of guys that could have really helped right in our own backyard and couldn't get. We may have gotten Kevin Huerter as well if not for sanctions. As unfair as the sanctions seemed to be they were still on JB's watch.
