is it time that florida state can shut up

The problem is that we get the negative PR and have nothing to show for it.

FSU at least has a recent NC in football.

Given the choice...FSU+Negative PR= NC or SU+ Negative PR = No NC ...Seeing as how it seems the negative PR in CFB is unavoidable by pretty much any program, I would choose to have one than not.

Name a program in the current P5 that has not had these type of issues...

Note this is from 2011:

However I suspect a school like Stanford is usually pretty quiet on the crime front.

Great read. Wonder what that list would look like for the 2014 season?

One doesn't make a pattern, but I think we could argue that a few SU players have received the benefit of the doubt, and in some cases, didn't receive any additional punishment from the Athletic Department.

I'm not sure what was alleged here .. or who was involved. But there's not enough to conclude a prosecutable offense occurred .. or there would have been an arrest, as there has been in most of the cases I have heard of. Here's a quote from the article you linked:

"The decision of the panel was that these three men were responsible or guilty for having caused her mental anguish, and maybe a couple of other things, but it didn't cross that bar that said, you're out of here," Potter said.

IN any event, this seems to be an isolated case. Most of the SA's at SU that have been involved in some kind of criminal (or quasi-criminal) activity have been disciplined ... Eidelin was suspended 8 games for playing with 40 year olds in a tavern league. Then he was suspended several times for low-level marijuana use ... something that isn't even an NCAA requirement (and isn't tested at many universities). I'm not a fan of "pot", btw.

The cases (at SU) of FB, BB and LAX players that have broken curfew, punched someone, broken or stolen property ... nearly always result in punishments ranging from team suspension to expulsion. True, formal criminal charges are sometimes dropped after probation, etc.. but that's not unusual for low-level, youthful offenders. At least they've gone through the process of being prosecuted, paying restitution and establishing predicate offenses in case they get in trouble in the future.

Then there is the whole NCAA fiasco ... over some kids being paid min. wage for refereeing games at the local YMCA, or Fab Melo getting too much help with a paper. Frankly, this stuff, while regrettable, isn't even on the same page with the massive fraud at places like UNC or the academic farce going on at UK. Inthis context, the FSU FB program is in a different league when it comes to white-washing serious criminal behavior. Cook is a one-man crime wave. And Winston was likely involved in a serious s e x ual assault that went unprosecuted because local police soft-peddled the investigation. Then we have the Johnson incident ... I mean, two different FSU FB players punched women in the face on successive nights at different bars. Maybe they have a problem??!! ;)

We are different than FSU because of concentration of events over a short period of time, massive questionable police involvement or non-involvement, and the spotlight being brighter due to the popularity of the sport.

It's really not close.
