QUESTION:
1. Did TGD offer HCDM a contract extension [as many suggested he should] during the last months of the season?
IF NO: He will be excoriated by the usual critics, his fitness for continuation as AD will be called into question etc.. And this coming after he seemed to have righted himself with: ACC move, Improv in Olympic sports, fund raising, and steps; abate small, but notheless steps towards improving the facilities and more.
IF YES: This would seem to indicate HCDM was considering some kind of move in the short term. What other reason could explain a refusal to accept a contract extension at the 'dream job.'
[Of course monies are always a factor however if everyone is 'on the same page' this can be worked out amicably] HCDM obviously wants something SIGNIFICANT from TGD.

QUESTION: Can TGD deliver for HCDM? Does TGD have the influence/power needed in this situation? I have to believe the AD wants to keep HCDM happy. In light of the facts we know I also believe HCDM is very serious about considering all options and may very well be leaving the 'dream job' for the NFL if offered.

OBSERVATION:
Obviously no extension exists nor is one being worked on. IF this were the case we would have been made aware of this fact with TGD holding a presser stating how we value HCDM and decided to 'lock him up' for the forseeable future.

ANOTHER QUESTION:
Is TGD contingency planning ? What if HCDM leaves? Will TGD be caught with off guard and have to take a flyer a la GROB !! AGAIN ! ! !

Our alma mater IS at a critical decision point.

GO ORANGE !

1. Of course, he's the AD.
2. You have no clue what extension may or may not exist. You can bet one is in the works.
3. There is no need for a presser of any kind at the moment.
4. He's probably thought about candidates, but there is no need to give this much thought because Marrone isn't going anywhere.

Good AD's always have a contingency lists of coaches to hire handy for situations like his. The 2 big questions: is TGD a good AD (and I think he has developed into one)? and if so, does SU have the ability to hire any of these coaches in that list...

I tend to agree with your thoughts. Let's remember that 4 years ago TGD did try and sign Skip Holt. I know that seems funny now but at the time Skippy was considered a very good candidate dispite the fact he would use SU as a stepping stone on his way to ND ! WOW how things change over time ! ! LOL !

his next hire will determine his fate -
so far he is .500-and that aint too bad-

to go from robinson to a guy that graduated to the nfl gives him some leeway-

OK - I confess I'm from out of town now and a step behind.

TGD = The Good Doctor = Daryl Gross?

Have to disagree with you here Boston.

We can not be sure of an extension and the very fact nothing has been said would speak to their NOT being an acceptable offer [extension].
If there is an extension in principle there is every reason to have a presser.
This is NOT a good story for SU and the FB program.

That being said; I hope your certainty regarding HCDM continuance at SU is correct.

I have been led to believe its about the amount of the raise, for DM and staff. Question is if SU is going to pay the going rate for big time FB, or be an also ran. HCDM wants no part of the later.

Yeah Gross scrwed up by hiring a guy the NFL might want.

I dont think people get the concept of capitalism on this board.

A massive understatement. Freedom to create and choose your destiny is in direct conflict with Central Planning.

Look at it this way: If a reputable organization says they would like to speak with you about a higher level position, of course you talk. Nothing is lost by talking as long as it is done the right way.

Meanwhile, you've just given Dr. Gross what HE needs to structure the right agreement to keep Marrone at SU. In otherwords, Marrone is actually doing him a favor.

You, me, everyone else have absolutely NO need to know until the deal is done. When the deal is done, we'll all find out about it.

Actually, it's great for the program to have a coach who is well thought of by the NFL.

Capt.
If your impression is correct then SU is certainly at a major turning point and it might be as significant a decision as in the early 1970's regarding the direction of the football program. I was glad we chose to go 'big time' back then, I am worried we choose differently now.

Agree that what you say Boston can make sense except the manner with which this is being played out in the press seems kind of low class and somewhat petty.

We don't announce extensions, but if ever there was a case to break precedence, this might have been it. We didn't need to hear about an extension for JB, because no kidding, of course he was staying.

But in this case, after qualifying for a bowl, it would have let the fans and recruits know SU football is on the correct path and going all in if a 10 year, 20+ million contract extension had been announced.

SU does not publically anounce contract extensions.

That Boeheim kid has been here for 37 years, and SU has never mentioned an extension for him.

Hmmm, maybe he got fired in the 80's and nobody told him?
Every year when his 1st paycheck doesn't show up in his checking account, he walks over to Susan in Accounting's desk and writes a # on a piece of paper that he asks her to divide by 24 and load that in the direct deposit machine.

Seems to work just fine for him, maybe he can pick up marrone next time?

This may be the sanest post here in three days.

As I am a borderline idiot...WE SHOULD ALL BE SCARED.

Seriously, as a community, Syracuse has not involuntarily lost a coach it adores since Mac. Any future streak will never be this long.

This is dumb.

Sorry.

You know the criteria for what good ADs ahould have?

Do YOU have a month's supply of waer and tuna fish in your house "in case"??? If you do...you are a failire for not having three months worth.

It appears O'Brien and psu handle the situation much better. Once O'Brien's interview got to public, a decision was made quickly to minimize damage. Here too much information went to public way too early. Significant damage may have been done no matter what next. Some one mishandled the situation here.
