Is the NCAA "Just About Out of Time"?

HOLY *&^%% the judge teared up when reading the verdict.
System sure is something.
I mean, in a horrendous abuse case or something similar, I get it.

But a football case???

ok sure.gif

Interesting. Would the 16 SEC schools go it alone? Who would care if they play each other exclusively. Even the TV audience would eventually lose interest. Would it really matter to the other P-4 schools?

NCAA is out dated.
The players and leagues have all the power.
We will see a fracture of D1 VERY soon if something is not done.
If the SEC doesn't get more and more teams in the playoffs they will take their ball and go form their own league, which honestly I'm not sure why they havent yet.
Only thing that can save the NCAA is to pivot to a pro model of running college sports. They have no real power to much of anything, all a kid has to do is find a judge who is friendly with the university and BAM they get another year.

They are trying to get congress involved

They need to go back to the drawing board because the SCORE act will never be passed and was not good for the athletes anyway.

Allow the players to form a union, enact revenue sharing, hire a commisioner, have overight commitee for NIL etc, and just get ride of the NCAA.

No need to muddy the water with the government involvement. Everyone wins. Players get fair treatment, unvisersities still get money, and it would end up being better for the fans in the end.

I just can’t get around boosters footing the bill for colleges making millions of dollars a year. As everyone has endlessly stated, it’s not sustainable. Rich people give money for 2 reasons. Tax write off or a return on investment. They are not getting either with NIL and will soon die. No way millionaires can keep pumping millions of dollars a year into each sport.

Yeah it’s idiotic. Player compensation should be tied to direct revenue from the program(share of conference revenue, ticket sales etc), NIL is moronic

The SEC can enjoy it for a short while until other SEC teams screw over SEC teams. Then the B1G starts screwing over SEC teams. Then the ACC. The final straw is when Iowa State screws over an SEC team, that is when the calls for a stronger NCAA (or another organization to be named later) that will keep everything fair.*

Who knows, maybe there will be an organization that has real teeth holding all schools to the same standards.

I think an All-SEC/Only SEC conference and championship would be novel for a few years, but after several years of the majority of the nation and CFB fans screaming that the SEC is pansy and cannot play football with others they will have to rejoin the majority. Several in the SEC personnel have already indicated that they cannot go to a P2 without significant expansion, we can reasonably conclude that they also mean the SEC cannot really create a stand alone SEC league.

*Fair = SEC gains and holds an advantage over other conferences.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has in the past made comments that he knows it isn't healthy in the long run, evem for the SEC, to only have two leagues. Presumably if he thinks that about two, it also applies to only having one.

You all did pay attention to the fact that this was some columnist looking for more clicks right? Did you see any quotes from a single person associated with the SEC, much less anyone in authority at the SEC? This article was garbage except for the fact that it pointed out the fact that the NCAA has no power. And the reason for that is the laws and the courts. The NCAA can’t change it.

It's a slow news period.

I doubt it, because I expect that if the BT will not join the SEC, then the SEC will make offers to all the major TV draws in the BT, and most of them will take the offer. And the same offers will be made to the most valuable ACC schools.

That latter includes partial football member ND, which will make that move. The ACC as we know it simply can never get back near the SEC or BT in terms of TV money.

The NFL is 1 league based on a merger of NFL and AFL. SEC + BT + ND + several ACC schools and maybe Texas Tech will only create more TV money.

Maybe, how big is the pie? Are these networks seeing commiserate returns from advertisers? We’ve watched several games this year where the same promo ads get played over and over again, that means they’re not selling those spots.
