I was incredibly drunk last night.

Watched the game, was in awe of our athleticism and ability to attack the basket. But I checked the boxscore this morning, only 22 rebounds.

Is rebounding a serious issue for this team? Or was last night just a fluke?

cal held their own on the boards with us too with a really small lineup.

Honestly, Baye hurt us for what felt like an interminable stretch. They had a couple long misses that kicked out to guards. But given the fact that Baylor only missed about 20 shots, I didn't feel that we rebounded too poorly.

We're a poor rebounding team, simply put. Nobody on the team boxes out, and despite the fact that everyone jumps around on defense like a bunch of kangaroos anytime someone does a pump fake, our guys seem to have awful timing for jumping for rebounds.

I'm more concerned about times "we do" get a rebound and an opposing player knocks it out of our hands. This seems to happen a few times every game. Think I'll send the team a supply of stickem for Christmas.

Also, the zone is never the best defense for rebounding.

playing heart throb zone is a detriment to rebounding. if five athletic six ten, seven footers; none of which r skinny can't rebound; system sucks

Tough to call us a bad rebounding team when our offensive rebounding pct is near tops in the nation. By nature the zone is harder to rebound out of but I say we are an abovr avg team on the boards. Good on the offensive end and avg to below avg on def end. Cooney did a better job rebounding in the zone or at least boxing out and ennis needs to improve. Mcw was one of the best rebounding pgs we've ever had.

As was Triche.

Definitely an issue, Kieta really gives up the offensive rebounds when he is out there. Also, Grant uses his athletic ability to rebound, he never puts a body on anyone. For example, I cant remember if it was Baylor or Cal, but a man comes running down the lane and grant did not get in front of him. Instead, he allowed the player to get in position for the rebound for an easy 2. All he needed to do was rotate 30 degrees and body the guy up.

It's why we haven't been able to win 75% of our games under this system. It's why we only had by far the best record in the history of the Big East with this system. If only we had Igor.

If we score more than our opponents, who cares. This team is going to win on offense. Not on defense.

Rebounding is always an issue for us in the zone. It may not matter much now, but when one-and-done time rolls around, everything matters. There are going to be some very good teams at the end (Duke, UNC, UK, KU, MSU, OSU (both) UL, likely some others), and if we are to contend, we cannot be lax in any aspect of the game. On any given night, any weakness can be deadly.

Not entirely accurate. Historically, we are above average as an offensive rebounding team--a testimony to the length / athleticism of our players year in year out. On the defensive boards, we are vulnerable due to the system.

If you'd put "defensive rebounding team," I'd agree 100%.

The thing is, the zone really should not be that much of a disadvantage when it comes to defensive rebounding. Just like when you guard the man in your area, when the shot goes up, you box out the man in your area. I still see our defenders following the ball when it is shot. Wrong. Pick out a man, especially their big guys, and box him out. it's not that hard. It's just not cool to do on the playground, so it's not ingrained in the players.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

See that's where you are showing your ignorance: the key stat in basketball is rebounds. Not wins. Silly.

Who recruited those players and convinced them to go to SU?

This has actually been a pretty good rebounding team until Cal-Bay. It might be the opposition but overall we've more than held our own and more than made up for it in turnover differential, which is going to be a huge stat for us with Ennis running the show.
