Is this a tournament team?

We’ll be a tournament team this year if:

Kyle proves to be a legitimate defensive anchor in the middle

We play better team defense which includes better defense at every position on the floor.

JJ takes 4-5 less shots a game to let Donnie and Kingz take a heavier load.

We escape the injury bug we always seem to hit lately.
There isn't any way that George came here to participate in a one man show by anyone.
If he wasn't given a firm idea by Red that this was going to be a 5 man offense, he would have gone somewhere else. Or he could have stayed where he was.

They better be ready early! Those are some tough games.
Deja vu.

Not sure how this is correct when we played Texas (4-1), Texas Tech (who went on to win 28 games), Tennessee, etc last year.

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen nearly enough from Red to assume we can make the tournament.

We absolutely have the talent to be competitive. But it’s on coach to put those pieces together and run a functional offense and defense. Losing Bell is a huge addition to this team. He was a 1 trick pony.

What consensus do you mean?
This board? National media?
National media/pundits. No NCAA tourney, bubble team, NIT. I’m not saying this is what I think will happen, just saying it’s the expectation.

Talent alone we should be on the right side of the tournament bubble. I think nba scouts will be interested in our squad. Maybe we don’t have lottery players but we have some guys with a legit shot to play in the league in 1-2 years.

I think a kid like Fennell will eventually make the league. Can't teach heart, and he has size, will get stronger, can pass, shoot, willing to play defense. Someone who does all those things will find a spot in the league.

The people who don't have a future in the league are those small guards. If you're not at least 6-3 or 6-4, so you can guard people, there's not going to be a future for you in the NBA.

It was our best rebounding team in years and we sucked. We are better off forcing turnovers so we can get out and run.
rebounding is very important...its just not important enough that its enough on its own

this program somewhat resembles the magnificent ambersons. we auctioned off our pearls, paintings silver and land years ago with poor decisions by the coaches and administration . still pretending to be rich but actually penniless and living on past glory. is this a top 25 program ? nope. hasn't been for many years.

had to look up magnificent ambersons. that was before my time, but I get your point. sadly ...

If it isn’t we will have a new coach.

I think I’ll have a decent idea after the first 5 games, just like it was apparent last year after 3 games.

Well, it was kind of remarkable that he won 20 games his first year with half the team hurt, and no big men after December.
I always thought the top 10 UNC win that year was impressive then we turned around and lost to Ga Tech on the road the next game. That was a UNC team that only loss 3 ACC games that year. Also considering the week or two before Autry had just kicked Benny Williams off the team.

It’s been a pretty dysfunctional 2 years overall. All we can do is wait. It’s tourney or blow it all up.

He took a bunch of misfits his first year and won twenty games.
This is what I come back to. Whatever he tried in Year 2 was beyond horrific. Go back to Year 1 and improve on whatever was happening then.

Eh, I respectfully disagree. Need to surge forward and not try to replicate "year one" performance which was still pretty garbage in my opinion with horrid defense, lots of blowouts; gotta aim a lot higher. Finally have the pieces to do so

I don't know if Autry will end up being the long term head coach at SU. It's a tall order, as even if he's very good, clearly we feel we deserve the best of the best. That said, I feel like last year is not demonstrative of who he is as a coach. I'm cautiously optimistic about this year. More emphasis on optimistic than cautious.

I'm also sick of this loser mentality that has permeated our basketball program such that mediocrity is now acceptable and to be expected. It should not be. We need to start crushing those that should be crushed, soundly beat our peers, and pull off some big time upsets, announcing our relevance again. We literally have well over a decade of pent-up frustration.
