You want change, I’ve flipped flopped, but it’s clear for so many reasons that it's time for Kiyan Anthony to take JJ Starling role in the starting lineup. I know it was against lesser competition, but Kiyan just seemed much more confident, the ball moved better, the defense was much more active, and it just felt different when Kiyan had to start. All the freshmen peers of Kiyan and Sadiq seem to be playing huge roles and are the MVP of their teams. I would be suggesting the same for Sadiq if he didn’t have Freeman in front of him who is kind of a super freshmen since he only played half of last season and half of this season. JJ can be an off the bench burst player that really should’ve always been his role on this team. Our shooting guard has a hitch in his shot, like that’s just not acceptable for a shooting guard. I know Anthony hasn’t shot it well, but atleast he has good mechanics and perhaps if he had a larger role and settled into games as a starter he would shoot better over time. I know people have suggested moving JJ to point guard to replace George. I know George has struggled, but that is not the solution. I really want to see George play most of his minutes with Kiyan again. George is being set up for failure if guys aren’t moving well. Also, I would rather see us turn the ball over than William Kyle getting the ball on the perimeter, it’s absurd and crazy that he is not parked inside the 3 point line the entire time when we are on offense. Here is my lineup makeup and minute averages we should be aiming for with flexibility for foul trouble and hot shooting nights from Betsey:

Starters:
George 35
Anthony 35
Kingz 35
Freeman 35
Kyle 35
Bench:
Betsey 10
Starling 10
White 5

You are talking about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. With the current coaching staff and player roster, it's too late for this season. At this point, it's hard to know where the lack of strategic coaching ends and the poorly constructed roster with all of its flaws begins. If I were a coach in todays college game (and thank god I'm not), one of the most crucial skills I recruit is to make sure most of my roster has a high level of 3-pt making ability, so that i have at least 3 or more players on the floor at the same time who can consistently make shots from the field. Even in our offense with lack of flow, the shots are sometimes there for us, we just don't have anyone who can consistently make them.

thats going from bad to worse. kiyan is easily our worst defensive player. offensively jj and kiyan are very similar but jj is the better ball handler and passer. no coach is going to make that change and play kiyan 35 mins and jj 10.

People want change and Naithan George to the bench is not the answer.

Yeah I don't see anything that Kiyan does better than JJ - very disappointed in his game, and again if his name was Smith, we'd all be asking why he is playing.

My argument is related to Kiyan having better mechanics and maybe just maybe he gains more confidence starting the game vs coming off the bench.

Good thing you are not the Head Coach.

Well when Kiyan was starting, although against the worst teams in division 1 Syracuse was in the top 20 of efficiency metrics nationally. There was a rhythm established with him in the starting lineup we haven't seen since including all the Q4 games in December.

If anything, Kiyan should be getting fewer minutes. He's a poor ball handler, a black hole on offense and plays matador defense. The only reason we go into that ineffective zone is to try to hide him on defense.

I was referencing the entirety of your post (and thread title), not just the Kiyan stuff.

Sadly the team just stinks and is extremely poorly coached. The reality is that there is no lineup tweak that will result in better outcomes.

The basketball team will end the season just like the football team did...with a muffled whimper.

Next year will be better but I say that every year lol

Gave you a like. Not sure how much or what I agree with, but I appreciate the recognition for the need for change.

I think Kiyan is in a weird place right now. He has seemingly regressed in the way he plays (feels like he has significant tunnel vision and isn't great on D, even though JJ isn't either). He definitely has a great offensive bag for a frosh though. And he assuredly has better form than JJ on his jumpers and has an actual mid-range game.

Previously, it sure seemed like he was ascending to a better place, even though I think his D was never going to be good.

I think at this point there will not be any change because we're basically a broken ship. But, I would consider NG, Kingz at the 2, Betsey, Donnie and Kyle as the starters. I know NG has been not great, but we need someone at lead guard. I don't think JJ is capable of playing lead guard as a starter. Now, I don't think this would happen in a million years at this point, so it doesn't matter, because Red and JJ are basically tied at the hip.

I feel bad for Donnie, Kyle and Kingz. I think they are just getting the bad end of things with this year's situation.

This post just elevated Autry to genius status. I literally forgot how to tie my shoes.

Red did say at the end of his post game that everything is on the table now.

This is a rough part of the schedule to implement change, but you would think he has to try something. Yes, odds are low that anything he does at this point is going to work, but why not? Give Kiyan another start. Let the Aussie run the show for 10 minutes. Do something.

Main lineup would be George-Kingz-Betsy-Freeman-Kyle

I would play every offensive possession that Freeman is in the game through him in the post or mid-post. I tell George and JJ that if you can't get the ball to Freeman in the post or mid-post and he has to come out to the three-point line to get the ball, then you will be benched, and the other will go in.

Agree. He kinda gets treated with kid gloves on this board (and understandably because of his dad). However, I do not see him as an answer.

We're just stuck with George at this point. Poor coaching probably hurts him a lot too but those turnovers just kiiiiiill me. For a point guard to be effective in this offense, he needs to be more in the mold of Mintz who just plays his own game. Really disappointing as I was most excited about the PG coming into the season. I thought that would be the biggest difference maker. I think Carlos might be better.
