That's crazy. And sad. Didn't know it was just sitting there still.

I drove through Pontiac a few years ago and had to stay at a hotel nearby. I had a perfect view of the Silverdome from my room and snapped a photo. The roof was obviously still up then, but I remember just how eerie and depressing the whole scene was. Empty parking lots with weeds growing through. It was a monument to a dead culture. The last time I had seen it before then was in 1994 for the World Cup, US vs Switzerland. The place was packed, there were parties all over the parking lots...there was so much life around it. It really is sad to see it delapitated like that. They should just knock the thing down.

I could put my biosphere there. Just some large pillars down the middle to support an openable greenhouse , some walkways across the third level tropical canopy and terraced tropical gardens everywhere, oh and waterfalls.

I wonder if we could get a deal on the blue seats?

You laugh, but that actually isn't a half bad idea...

EDIT: Scratch that idea... Those seats are beat

That stadium was refurbished back in 2010...(not joking)...and they put a lot of money into it to fix it up some.

Talk about a waste of money that was

It continually amazes me how quickly abandoned buildings turn into ruins

How cool would it be, if during the transition to the new stadium/dome, they tore the roof off this and played the last game at the Carrier Dome exposed to the elements. Wouldnt that add to the draw of the final game. Now this would only work if the new stadium was available for basketball season.

Edit...would have to be a day game, no lights lol
Double edit, probably wouldnt work, we'd lose the PA speakers too...

oh well, was a great idea

Detroit is such a forgotten gem.

The greatest of all Silverdome highlights:

EDIT - what an shame... that place used to be the bomb. What a joke that they let it go like that. At the very least, tear it down and let it go with some dignity. Now it just looks like part of Detroit, or Pontiac should I say.

Lastly, hearing Jessie Ventura introduce the wrestlers, he said Hulk has a 21" neck, 24" biceps, 18" forearms, calves 20" and that he's 6'8", 294 lbs. Gotta love the extreme exaggeration. I miss you late 80's, early 90's WWF.

There's at least a million $$$s worth of stuff to be stripped and sold in there.

Can't believe the turf didn't at least go to a pop warer field some where.

Crazy.

Cannot handle any rain. It's like ripping the roof off your house.

It's just trying to fit into the rest of he Detroit landscape.
I can understand the shots at Detroit given how it's portrayed by the media. It has been a difficult/sad few decades for the city. I now call it home and have seen some great changes over the past 7 years. I admittedly get a bit defensive when I hear negativity towards a proud city. Come visit either for the CMU Football game or the hoops game in Dec. I will host and assure you a great time.

I was just having some fun. I am glad it is getting better. I've seen TV shows that portrayed pockets of home. I know Detroit had a great past and home it gets better.

I was at that game. Great Day, had alot of fun the stadium was decked out in all its glory. Wynalda free kick tied it 1-1

I miss the Silverdome, Ford Field is like a curse
