It sure would be nice to LAND some portal transfers...

We can play word games if you'd like, but I think you're confusing my claim that getting an education is a selfish act means that getting an education is wrong. We don't think about getting an education as selfish, but it is - it is done wholly in the interests of the individual. It consumes tremendous resources for the individual, to such an extent that nowadays most people have to harm the financial welfare of their future selves in order to afford education now. We excuse it because it's common practice to how the world works and the selfish act of a person taking themselves out of society for a time in order to learn doesn't generally harm others. It's just a socially accepted kind of selfishness because net, it becomes a positive thing at a later time for critical masses of people to have an education.

I submit it isn't a ridiculous claim at all. For the reasons I listed above, I humbly submit that education is inherently selfish. And related to the current paradigm, fans and their own inherent selfishness (which is far, far less purposeful than the selfishness inherent to education) are having a really hard time accepting that many student-athletes are pursuing what may be the highest earning years of their lifetime while getting their education. The rule that those years come well after college has been turned on its head and a lot of fans struggle to navigate the emotional journey of that reality.
Sorry, but this is nonsense.

You have to get past the literary concept of selfish. This is an economic concept of selfishness that doesn’t have the same negative connotation.

No, not buying it whatsoever. Everything is selfish then.

I gotta be honest. I like you (never having met you), and you contribute a lot to the board even though I don't agree with some of your viewpoints. But you kinda self-owned in this part here...

So...it's selfish, but it's a selfishness accepted by society because on net it...benefits society.

It like...dude...you're...SO CLOSE

Doesn’t pretty much every team take some big hits?
Yeah, the first part are the guys who lea e most are searching for the biggest money or a chance to play. Some will never play again.

I phrased it that way for a reason.

My new outlook is to remember that these kids are not playing for fans or the school or the community. They are playing for their own pocketbooks and are nothing more than mercenaries. It is the new reality and there is nothing that can change that. Might change my focus to pickleball
It's all about money it's what the so called fans wanted. Not about the sports anymore. You reap what you sow.

Now you’re getting it. But stop thinking about it like it’s bad, that’s where it’s hard to wrap your head around. Also there’s obviously different levels of selfishness. Working in a soup kitchen is selfish, people don’t do it unless they feel good about doing it. But it also helps other people and that may make them feel good too, also selfish. And that’s okay.

Yeh that's the new age progressive way of thinking. Rules are for anyone that dosent agree with them.

You’re not even in the right ballpark for this discussion. People love to label what they don’t understand as some new progressive idea. This concept is based on fundamental economic concepts that go back at least a couple hundred years.
