Going to keep this post away from stating the blantant obivous weaknesses we all have had impounded in our heads for the first time this season. Funny, we all blew off ND like it was nothing because of Cooney alone. NC State and St Francis not so much but we still won. I am in the prediction that even if we lose a game this year, we will play better then those two games, unless we are so beat tired we can't go anymore.
1.When it all boils down to it, we need to get better and break that habbit of one or two players only stepping up from ever happening again. This has been a constant concern and why we lose in the tournament the last 5-6 years. Thats the difference from us beating Indiana and losing to a michigan and Ohio State in March the last few years. To me that is more important then ranking even.
Really it shows what college ball is all about. Even above average nba players and all stars have tough games sometimes, but the ones who have them the least are at the top of the list thats what Grant, Fair, Cooney and Ennis have to remember.
2. Also take to note it was right after the duke and @ pitt games we almost lost to a medicore team and had our two worst games of the season offensively. This team needs to take note of that because in march thats what you could get, 3 tough 2 games stretches where you play a game every 2-3 days.
3. We can anaylize all we want, but we are missing Baye right now, and really don't have a 3rd guard or a 3rd forward that is scoring off the bench. That is amazing to not have that and be 25-0, Really Really Amazing. and when you add the schedule we have played on top of it its absolutely crazy good chemistry, coaching, and teamwork stepping up to the occasion.
That should tell all of us how Awesome C.J. Fair, Tyler Ennis, Trevor Cooney, and Jerami Grant have been for us all year. And now Rakeem Christmas has extended into this territory as well. They deserve so much respect for what they have accomplished, and not just because they are undefeated but because of all the winning they are doing.
4. I hope we can put to motion all our sets and plays and get them rolling to shoot a substainable 45-50 percent shooting going into mid march. Our defense is also pretty darn good, not Great, but certainly Above Good. No more of this 47 percent shooting one game 35 the next.
5. I love JB's way of coaching. It is the apitomy(spelling) of everything college basketball should be. Classy team, hard working, tough athletic kids year in and out. Man does he deserve another title like there is no towmorrow ever coming, and like the Apple of God's Eyes. Now stepping into a new light and new major conference, this has shown this even more.
Lastly, we got boston college coming up next game, and guess what its going to be important that our defense steps up so they better be practicing that and not all offense in practice. BC shot real well against us the first time around.
L'ets go,
SUball.
