Some Lemoyne Thoughts

Lemoyne getting handle at home by CS Northridge. No real surprise there, they aren’t good. And neither are we.

The obvious flaws apparent all off season (shooting, defense, PG/playmaking, talent) are going to be there all year. I don’t think we have the coaching to get these guys to elevate their games but we’ll see. I have a feeling this is going to be a really long season. Hope I’m missing something.

LeMoyne beats CS Northridge easy if two of their starters don't get hurt against Syracuse. In fact they might be 2-0 right now if not for those injuries. They have had unbelievably bad luck. I haven't heard how serious the injuries are yet. If their guys come back they will be good, if not they won't. It's a shame.

CSUN was favored by 2. Le Moyne beat them last year out in California. Obviously they got up for SU and looked pretty deflated last night. The guys who got injured vs SU are out awhile so that Syracuse game was costly for the dolphins.
Is that Carmody kid with the bad shoulder out for the year again? I think they said it was his 7th year with all the shoulder surgeries he’s had. Sad.

Let’s hope not. He had 3 seasons at ND and the Latvian kid played at Georgia Tech too, good pick ups for Le Moyne.

To say nothing of Northridge's motivation to avenge last year's loss.
As somebody else said, that's why we love college basketball.

Yeah, he didn't look good after that. So sad for the kid.

Debating how good CSUN and Lemoyne are.

The pits.

We should never be comparing ourselves to the BEST 16 seed. Ever. We should be beating every low-major we play. Every time.

If these teams played our schedule, they'd win 5 games.

KenPom means absolutely nothing at this point in the season, so that's a bad faith argument.

Yeah, I hate KenPom and all this modern analytics BS.

It has ruined baseball. It has led to so many really bad purchases in European Football.

It gives you absurd rankings like the ACC being only the 7th best basketball conference, while the Big 12, SEC and Big 10 supposedly have "ALL of the best teams", and yet, they still seem to lose to ACC teams every year during March Madness.

It seems to distort what I see when I watch sports. But that's just me, and some will call me old. But I was a stats freak way before money ball.

I once had a colleague refer to this as the "MBAification" of sports. Started in baseball as you mentioned. Obviously now in the NBA the main offensive strategy is to shoot threes or get layups around the hoop. Most efficient scoring but no stylistic differences anymore.

As far as the conferences, are you evaluating all the conference teams from top to bottom or just the teams who make the NCAA and happen to do well?

I'm not going to tell you that what you see right now is wrong. I just see things a little more glass-half-full at this point in the year.

Talent-wise, this is a better team at every position except one, point guard.

But that PG last year came at a price. He was a selfish player, and this team was a dysfunctional mess at times last year. Guys got benched, kicked off the team, injured, and so on.

At Center, we are better. At PF, we are better, no disrespect to Maliq Brown and Justin Taylor, but Donnie + Petar + Davis is just better, with more looks and more options.

Bell will be better than he was last year. So will JJ.

Only Carlos is less than Judah. We'll see whether better overall chemistry trumps one individual's talent.

I am also surprised a player with that bad of shooting firm has shot as well as he has.

I want to see more of Moore as the season goes on. I just see way more offensive upside if Moore can handle the defensive side.
The defensive side is where the work is needed. I really hope JAB does some analysis of he and others on a broadcast.

Woah woah woah

Don't get all upset at analytics because Boehly spent a billion dollars to make Chelsea average :p

Last year, we gave up 48% from the field / 45% from 3 in game 2 vs. Canisius.
We were not good against Colgate, and got killed by Tennessee and Gonzaga. That was just our first five games, but it was butt-ugly.

We beat LSU pretty good. We shot really well from deep and Judah put up 32, while they couldn't make a shot. That was probably our first good game of the year, in game 7 of the regular season. And then we got our butts kicked again by Virginia in the very next game.

So, it takes time. But Autry's first team did get better as the season went along. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt for that, at least until about January.

Then, we'll have a better idea where we are. And like that one guy said, "let's just hope it's not already too late".

Actually those 2 guys are not there best players. We are in for a real tough season. I think we all know that. I knew that before the season even started...

Emotion comes into play too.

This was far and away the biggest game on their schedule, it's in a packed dome, they're looking for the huge upset. They're going to be up for it.

And then you have a game a few days later in a small, empty gym, against a no-name school. Of course you're gonna struggle there.

Happens all the time, that's why CBB is the best.
Emotion definitely comes into play. Next week LeMoyne plays at Yukon, (which technically is their biggest game on their schedule, but they won't have 1000 LeMoyne fans cheering rabidly for them like at the Dome).

I'm not sure John Wooden could have rallied the troops following their close Cuse loss. Fortunately they have a glorified scrimmage vs SUNY-Poly on Saturday before they head to the Hartford Civic Center.

I think the local "rivalry" aspect still makes SU the bigger game on their schedule

UConn will be stoked too to really put it to Lemoyne and thus SU so when comparisons are made…..

Good post. I hadn't thought of things specifically position by position. This is why quickly improving our defense is SO important.

Yup. Bragging rights. It would have been huge. However, if they could ever upset Yukon, it would be front page news coast to coast.

I think part of the difference was his effort was better this game. The game is still moving a little fast for him, but he realizes he has work to do.
So he’s no Carmelo, is he?

That's coaching. It takes a while. These are mostly older guys, so hopefully they pick things up quickly.

So he’s no Carmelo, is he?

No, dear lady, he's not. Very nice player. Has to physically mature. His reactions are not a fair comparison to Melo.

I do think he's better than Chris What's-His-Name, the guy that played 9 games for us and then got drafted by the Nets or someone.

We might actually have him for a second year. If he's not a top 10 pick the end of this season, he should come back, because he IS that level of talent. Just not yet.

You never know a person's circumstances or their maturity level. By any sane measure, Donte Greene could have gone higher in the draft with another, better, year in college. Guys in the NIT don't make the lottery. But who knows who gives these kids advice?

autry was very displeased with freemans defense. when he took him out for the final time, you could see autry roll his eyes almost like you are forcing me to take you out right now.
