It's official: Coleman won't play this year

The potential for our 2015-16 team really is outstanding, especially if DaJuan makes a healthy return. - SOPH Joseph at PG, with JR Patterson & FR Howard (prob not getting much playing time, though) behind him - I would imagine Joseph shows nice improvement by then, as he physically has tools to be good/very good. Hopefully by next year he can run the offense well, score some, and limit turnovers. May take him until his 3rd year to really breakout, though. - SR Cooney at SG, with FR Richardson behind him (hopefully getting playing time) - A senior Cooney is a big time asset to the team & he again would be one of top scorers/players. Richardson could be that "x-factor"/freshman star type player...a guy who can really shoot/score, IMO. Hope he would get some meaningful playing time, even with Cooney & others "ahead" of him. - SR Gbinije at SF, with JR Johnson behind him (getting decent playing time) - A senior Gbinije is also a great asset to Syracuse. Since I expect Gbinije to continue to show flashes of becoming a very good player this year (capable of driving lane, shooting, scoring, assisting, rebounding at high level) and then really put it all together next year, I'm very optimistic about his future here the next 1.5 years. I would hope BJ would also be ready to begin making meaningful contributions by next year as well. - JR Roberson at PF, with JR Chino & FR Diagne behind him (both prob not seeing too much playing time, though) - Similar to Gbinije, I expect Roberson to continue to trend upward this season, especially as a rebounder. By next year, Roberson could really be a force for Syracuse - putting up regular double-doubles (he almost is doing that now) & really impacting games (as he's beginning to do now). - JR Coleman at C, with FR Bryant behind him (prob getting just enough playing time to spell DaJuan & show flashes of his potential, but prob not make ton of meaningful contributions as a Frosh big man) - DaJuan returning to team next year healthy & ready to go will be a game-changer, IMO. He should be ready to be a pretty good offensive threat for us & hopefully his time here will have improved his knowledge of where he needs to be on defense. He's always been a high level rebounder as well. Him & Roberson together would make a fantastic pair in terms of rebounding. If DaJuan does return next year healthy & ready to go, and all we lose from this year's team is RAK & McCullough...Syracuse is a legit National Championship contender, IMO. That's a damn experienced & talented lineup/roster.

I don't see Chinoso at the 4 ever, Richardson will probably see more time at that three than BJ with Howard and Buss around.

I'm note sure I share the same outlook as you next year as a NC contender. I think we can be top 15 good but we're losing a heck of a player in Rak. Coleman by next year will be almost 2 years away from playing his last game, he wasn't great when he was playing, I'm not really sure what to expect from him. Bryant is not a sure fire slam dunk to come here, we could have some serious serious issues at the 5 next season.

I don't really disagree with much of what you say. But, "top 15 good" is pretty close to being a NC contender, is it not?

Also, I do have high expectations for DaJuan if he is to return next year healthy & ready to go. He is a former McDonalds AA, and fact that he did not have an immediate impact on games he did play in his first 2 seasons here are not unusual (unfortunately) for big men here. For whatever reason, they simply need time/experience playing before they can begin to really play well (like Fab his Soph year, RAK this year). I've always thought that DaJuan was a pretty skilled offensive player for a big man, and always held his rebounding skills in very high regard as well. It's his defense that seemed to keep him off the court the most, IMO. Hopefully by next year, being his 4th in the program, even without having "game experience", I am hopeful that his time practicing & playing pickup games & getting mental reps will have paid off & furthered his development, so that he could make those contributions scoring & rebounding by at least halfway point of next season.

I like the early out look of the team next year. Mike and Trevor as the scorers. Teams will have a hard time matching that returning production An improved Roberson at forward. I'd have to think BJ will be a lot better. Also KJO will be a completely different player. The five will be our biggest question mark for the first time since before Arinze?!

I agree with the Coleman assessment. He already showed to not be mobile enough defensively in the middle. Now two years later with a question mark on how his knee will respond, not sure how that fares defensively. Offensively, he showed some decent touch but never could elevate enough to not get stuffed often. Not sure what kind of player he will be two years later or how much the knee will hinder his athleticism. I'm hoping for the best for the guy because I never want to see injuries end a career or hurt a career.

I always pictured DC2 turning into a Lonnie Baxter type of player. He has that type of body that you can't dislodge and with the right post moves hard to defend at the college level. Its a shame he has had all the injuries and I really hope that he can play next season. It would certainly be interesting to see him have a crazy senior season after an injury bounce back next year.
I picture him as Elton Brand.

You forgot Tyler Lydon

Anyone think Obokoh might transfer after this year, given poor current and future PT prospects? Or will he become a serviceable backup in time?

dude will be 7 years older than some college frosh. truly a men amongst boys.

He still won't beat out Ronnie Highsmith from GTown. He was 28 and playing for the Hoyas. Big John knew people who knew people. ;) Actually, Highsmith served in the Army for 4 years before going to GTown. He now manages The Barbary Coast casino and hotel in Nevada. Hard to respect a Hoya, but RH served his country and worked his way up the ladder to GM.

I'm hopeful that the weight loss aka juicing will help out in that regards. He measured with a 7'2 wingspan in HS, so I gotta believe if he's more mobile with the weight loss that he can be an adequate defender at least.

Solid point, I hope he comes back strong after improving his body and rehabbing. I'm definitely pulling for him to be a beast.

cooney has already played more minutes this season than dajuan has in his entire SU career.

Hence the reason we should probably slow our rolls with the monster expectations some are already placing on him.
