Wonderful memories morning Post Standard evening Herald Journal, Sunday Paper. 2 TV channels, Black and white TV, party lines.

We had a party line and I delivered the Herald Journal. There was Channel 8 -WHEN and channel 3 - WSYR. A few years later channel 8 was used for a new Rochester station and WHEN became channel 5.

Channel 5 had their studios in the office building on Harrison street. There used to so much local programming. There used to be a daily show called “Jim DeLine and the Gang”. It was a variety show with a live band of about 15.

Memory lane. Funny story. A morning DJ used to read the school lunch menu’s One morning he announced while laughing hard - “you kids at West Genesee are in for a treat today”. He could never get the words out.

There was a dish made with ground beef and rice and the dietician called it PORCUPINE BALLS.
Maybe we can add them to the menu at the Fine Mess tailgate

There must have been a trade, because in Rochester we had two VHF channels, 5 and 10. In the late fifties or early sixties channel 5 became channel 8. Soon after that channel 13 appeared as the ABC affiliate.

Listening to Cuse games on the radio with Bill O'Donnell!!! During football season running to bring in the Sunday Herald-American to look first at The Old Scout's analysis of the game the day before. [It took some growing up before I knew that the Old Scout was really Arnie Burdick. What a great writer he was. For those not old enough you really missed someone special.]
