Love the club and country debate. I think, perhaps, it depends on the country. English fans, as you pointed out, find it hard to cheer for national players that ply their craft at rival English clubs. Also seems to be an overbearing feeling of "how will they screw up" not hopes of them not screwing up. Would think Italy is similar whereas Germany, Spain, Brasil, etc. may be the other way around.
