Jameis Winston arrested for shoplifting crab legs at Publix

@ESPNU · 14m
Source inside FSU tells SBNation that Winston will be fined $30, required to do community service & will be suspended from baseball team

$30? That's nuts.

Mini-rant here - if you break a law and require law enforcement intervention, your fine should total at least as much as the rest of us are paying the police for that time. Government's not free. A couple cops have to respond and fill out paperwork? That's a couple hours of work - at least $400, no?

Ridiculous.

The guy wins a Heisman and a National Championship and he still can't afford crab legs? What else does a guy have to do to get a few more illegal cash payments at Florida State?

Really. UK basketball players would never have to shoplift for crab legs. FSU boosters need to call Big Blue Nation to see how it's done.

That's up to the legislature and the judge.

I can't understand why he'd engage in such high bisque low reward activity now that students are cleared to have unlimited meals...
He's in the soup now!

Suspended from the baseball team, but not the football team? Oh, that makes sense.
It makes a ton of sense. Right now he's a baseball player. Suspending him from the sport he's actively playing is the right call. the timing just happens to work well for everyone.

MCW did the same thing, he just dealt with a store that had friendlier policies than publix. I bet the manager on duty gets run out of town for that sh**.

once a thief always a thief ( burger king)

WAS he going to invite shabezz over dinner?

Will FSU fans now boycott the store?

Just think what a little cash in some recruits' pockets could do for Syracuse Orangemen football.

Come on man! They were on sale this week. Had they been full price, I could understand trying to steal them.

So we should have all of our star athletes as walk ons to other sports just in case

Wow, they really brought down the hammer. 30 dollars will cripple that future millionaire.
I don't think they would take into account possible future earnings when punishing someone for a crime...

Definitely seems smart...particularly if you can delay the news on something like this until you are in the right season.

In all fairness, it sounds like he has a semi-plausible defense: he typically pays for his seafood at the counter, then does the rest of his shopping. This time, they didn't ring him up and he forgot about it and walked out of the store with them in the cart and got pinched. Stupid mistake, but feasible.

Now it is looking like it might not be true, Winston is claiming the girl at the checkout counter gave him the crabs.
