James Vollono (ST coordinator)

I am going to guess this is the guy we end up with…

Don't want to start an argument with anyone, or change the topic, but I have seen DART posted here a few times. It is only DART to me, if changes also happen to the DC or defensive side of the game.

The STs Coordinator was awful.

The DC was better than the STC, but was not good enough.

I doubt Fran does anything bc Robinson is legit his family, but for this to be DART, some things need to change on the defensive side.

I expect the DC & OC to he executing at equivalent levels. EDIT: when they have equivalent talent.
Robinson brings other things to the table that Vollono didn't. He has the recruiting reputation. If he can produce there, we can live with some growing pains while he grows into the DC role. It helped him that we seemed to tighten up in the redzone this year. We need to get better everywhere else next year. Gotta land/develop some pass rushers.

Hopefully he isn't the McFIt of the D side

You won’t get any argument from me that Tony is a great DC…lol

But I’d be shocked if ERs d was not on the field alot more. They gave up a lot of yards but the whole thing is premised on not giving up big shots over the top. I mean Kyle would go 90 yards in like 2 min…
That's not accurate. We had a few quick drives at the end of halves or games when we needed them, but our offense was very ball control despite being pass heavy. We were 5th this year in time of possession and 4th in plays per game.

Didn’t Fran say he was changing things up and wanted to play many starters on ST to give them a better chance to make the NFL? He said having ST experience helped the players make NFL rosters. Could that have been an issue? Did it even happen? It would have been a change and sounded like it was a head down type decision regarding ST.
He did say that. And I think people forget how many starters we played on special teams in the '90's. Keith Bullock was on kick coverage until he asked off as a senior because he felt it was wearing him out too much to be effective on defense. David Tyree is a special teams legend with his blocked kicks and that is what got him an NFL job.

I agree, but would add that the coaching / strategy deficiencies should be recognized & corrected. Give him help.

ERob can actually recruit

McF-it was the “tallest midget” of recruiters on a squad of terrible recruiters.

Along with being a turrible OC.

ERob is no worse than Top 3 on a crew of elite recruiters.
Who has room for improvement (I’m being kind) as a DC.

I agree with the others who have called for Fran to bring in an uber-experienced defensive coach like Paul Pasqualoni as an analyst or similar.

And if they go with PP -
They can then also honor him and it would be extra special if he was back involved with the program at the time it happened.

Looks like he's done a good job as a WR coach and maybe has grown a bit. I wonder if he'll ever get another chance as a play caller. He could do worse than learning offense from Kiffin.

He already proved he is better, the overhauled the defense for the G Tech game and McFit would never have thought of that.
Sure we've had growing pains and a LOT of injuries on the d side this year causing issues with pass rush etc.

Paying Coach P a couple hundred grand to do what he loves to do anyways (watch and talk about football) would be a fitting end to his career and a great way to honor him for his years of contribution to the program.

Yep, it was documented here several times during the season that our D was abysmal on a per play/per minute basis. We were just extremely fortunate that our offense was among the very best in the country at controlling time of possession.

If our D was on the field more we wouldn't have sniffed 10 wins.

if coach P wont help then why does UNC hire coach B?
Can't speak to Coach P but UNC brought Billy in for fundraising and I wouldn't shocked at all if he never coaches a game there mostly based on the really odd structuring of his contract
