I thought HCFB was all about having starters on specials.
IMO it depends. 3rd on depth chart doesnt always mean not good enough to play. I volunteered as an assistant for a high school and took on responsibility for STs based an my playing history in HS and College.
Having the ability to point out those players that are say 3rd on depth that have that chip that brings that intensity and dog is key. That attitude that makes those few plays they get stand out and sometimes just ruthless. Starters dont always display that dog on STs.
I would get so jacked playing STs as an underclassmen & still to this day. I would not be surprised if i have a heart attack during an SU kickoff during the cfp championship.

I agree with your take on this. Specials is probably the likeliest team to get injured on. A lot depends the talent the level of the backups as well. The Bills will likely have to play the Chiefs this weekend without Christian Benford, their starting corner, because he was concussed on a onsides kick attempt late in their game against the Ravens. We had a safety who was knocked out cold on a special teams(I stand corrected. Was not special team play) play years ago who's name escapes me. He played for the Steelers, and he had a history of concussions.

for all the safety plays they call for in fball the fact so many kids get get hurt on onside kicks should tell them something.

There is often no attempt to play the ball just wail on people to cause mistakes. You cant blindside block anymore so why allow it on these plays

He is the player I was thinking of, and PhatOrange I stand corrected. The play I found through further research is one where Shamarko was trying to tackle Pitt's J.P. Holtz and his helmet flew off and he collapsed to the ground.
