James

I admit James look better tonight but his point production is still skewed. Most of his points came when we were tacking it on and it wasn't a real close game.

He needs to show up when the game is close and not just in garbage time.
Gee didn't he have a key 3 coming in cold in the 2nd half a couple game ago whent he game was real close? How many times has he been in there when the game was close ( or even how many times has SU HAD a close game?) Tough to take/make baskets in close games when a) the team doesn't have many situations like that, b) he's not in the game c) he is 3rd or 4th option when he is!

James makes it really difficult to zone us.

He is the perfect player to sit at the top of the key, or down at the baseline. He can pass, and he can hit 10-15 footers with ease.

Are you this hard on yourself too?

Southerland brings this team to another level. If he's hitting 3's and those mid range jumpers, this team is unstoppable. He is very important to this team, VERY!

>>I'll not a believer yet, I still think he's an empty calories guy. Once he has a quality game against a quality time, I'll give him a break.>>

The Hall of Fame coach, considers Dion, CJ and James "starters" and praised what a good shooter James is last night. Multiple BE coaches, including Jay Wright last night have stated Southerland could start for the #1 team in the country and virtually every Big East team.

Last year he had 12 vs ND, 8 vs Pitt, 9 vs G'town, 7 vs Marquette. This year he has had 11 vs NC State, 8 vs Seton Hall (currently #2 team in BE) and 15 vs Nova (down this year but a rival that has kicked out butts in recent years). Unless you believe all these teams blow it might be time to give him that break.

Fair enough, I agree that James is a great 7th (?) option. I'll avoid ragging on him too much until I see what he does in the mid February stretch of the schedule.

Ummm, the whole point is that he is the "7th option" or whatever. The odds of your 7th guy even having James' talent (production not withstanding) are really slim. Once you also consider that he has put it together for most of hte season and been solid, then he's got to be graded out that much better. Will he ever be all-BE? I have no idea. But you're missing the point which is this: There is significant value in being a dangerous shooter (even if it's just a reputation), 6-8 and capable of playing adequately in the zone. That JS is all those things on most nights seems pretty much incontrovertible right now.
