Jay is pretty bad for a TV guy; he isn't articulate and seems a bit frantic, but that said, he has stuck with us this whole season and has stuck to his guns. I think he sees SU and UK as equals and understands the flaws that each team has.

If you realize that, what he says won't bother you as much.

No doubt--that is all certainly true. But it's schtick that differentiates him from other broadcasters. If you ever listen to his radio show--he's still a know-it-all, but not nearly as abrasive...because if he was, nobody would listen / call in.

Believe me, I find him annoying. I just don't sweat it when he disses SU. Because frankly, he disses every time at some point, and every fan base gets riled up about Gottleib being anti- their team.

Gottlieb is a sharp analyst. His problem is that he is supposed to be 50% sharp analyst and 50% entertaining TV personality. He's like that guy at work who is absolutely the smartest guy around but who thinks that gives him the right to treat everyone like a jerk. We've all worked with these people. They have their value, but they rarely achieve the success they think they should. You can see Andy Katz, Tirico, and the like just recoil from time to time when Doug sharp-shoots them. They realize the show gets worse if they start sniping at each other, Doug doesn't. So they take the high road and act professionally - thus letting it go.

I guess what I am trying to say is that Doug is "Nick Burns, your company's computer guy"

nah, he's not winning, see I don't listen to him and I don't care that he openly roots against us. I just don't like him. I don't like Kirk Herbstreit either.

But I don't think he's playing a character, I believe he's truly a smug arrogant which is typical of a know-it-all and someone who thinks he is always right.

IMO his problem is that he only chooses to analyze the negatives and ignores the positives. Every single thing that comes out of his mouth is negative. Nobody likes someone like that. It is not a matter of how accurate his comments are, but rather what he chooses to comment on.

Bilas is great not just because he is smart, but because he balances his analysis with pros and cons. The G-word is just a pompous negative nancy.
