I appreciate the honesty. You can tell this team isn't responding and he is really hoping these statements motivate them. He said Michigan isn't good and we couldn't beat them because of 17 turnovers. He said we will be lucky to win any ACC games if it doesn't get better.

JB can complain all he wants. It doesn't mean that the kids aren't trying. Joseph is probably the worst starting pg in the ACC. Our sophs haven't improved. It's tough to wiun with only 3 guys or so. We have been beating teams like us for 40 years

Dasher, funny you say that. I had the exact same thought midway thru the second half.."now I know what it's like to be a providence fan".

Agree on Johnson and Patterson. Roberson i think today was a good sign going forward (also he has been dealing with the injury for some time before so hard to judge)
Holy ...I totally forgot about Patterson; where was he today?

There's a fine line there. All true, based on results.

But the situation is, you've got the team you've got. They're not going to change, you brought them here and it's the team you'll have all year.

If I'm a player on the team, in the back of my mind I've got two thoughts in my head upon hearing Coach rail about us in the press Conference (I didn't hear the PC): 1) It was a major, strategic tactical error to play 2-3 zone against Michigan, giving their limited players who can shoot wide open shots, particularly inside 2 minutes; 2) it's clear Roberson is the team's 3rd/4th best player, but he's been treated like the 7th-8th guy and it cost us performance/games….coaching stature matters, and when the Hall-of-Famer is yanking you after one play repeatedly I'd be timid too. No surprise at all that Roberson played well today after all potential subs were unavailable…human nature.

All that said, the Coach is the one tasked with motivating these guys so that's the way he thinks it'll work best, hope so.

I still think the team needs better defined roles that the players can understand and seek to excel at….Cooney's play was particularly heartening today. G would have made a difference, his drives at the end of Michigan game shouldn't be diminished. Xmas should touch it every time down court.

But, back to the topic at hand, I think the best method of coaching/motivating nonprofessional players is behind the curtain, not out in the open like this appears to be...

JB ever explain his rationale for how RP was good enough to be in for most of the end of the St Johns game but wasnt good enough to play at all today? i have no problem when coaches put it all on the players but it would be nice if they explain some of their decisions that dont work out so stellar also

Maybe the Patterson decision is based on the end of the semester. I have no knowledge, but is there a possibility of a transfer?

I don't really think with G on the bench that JB wanted him in there. Kaleb played because I don't think JB trusts Cooney or Patterson to bring the ball up with pressure.

You can hammer all you want but its got to get into their long time memory not just their short. Thats important. Simple mental practice is long term memory.

Don't start that.

It's extremely possible that he could/would. If there is not minutes for him this year (or last year) who's minuets is he getting with Joseph, Cooney, Richardson, and Howard next year? I honestly thought he would have after last season.

Everyone who is a Cuse fan should do themselves a favor and listen to this and all the other press conferences. You will become a much more educated fan and have a much better understanding of how JB operates. That said I don't think anyone asked about RP.

When the players aren't doing their jobs, I think it's the coaches right to criticize them publicly. After all, he's not saying they suck and won't get better, he's saying they're not playing well and need to put in much more effort, which is fair IMO. These aren't fragile children, they can handle (or should be able to handle) public criticism from the coach. It's also Jim's job to prepare some of the players for the next level and nobody's going to pull any punches when they're pros.

Also, it was not a tactical error to play 2-3 zone against Michigan. The zone works when it's executed well. If we tried to play m2m with the current set of players, McCullough would get abused, Rak would foul out, and Joseph would be in real trouble.

Exactly. Michigan lost this year to a team that plays the Syracuse 2-3 zone, it just happened to not be Syracuse.

Boeheim had the ball in Cooney's hands to break the press most of the game, especially late. I think he trusts Cooney to break the press more than Joseph. Idk about Patterson; I have a feeling Jim didn't want to pull Joseph again out of fear it could crush the kid's confidence.

Objectively in the ACC Conference

1. Duke
2. Louisville
3. Virginia
____________
4. Miami (Note:Soft schedule, best wins over and overrated Florida Team that had a few key players out, and a meh Illinois team)
but overall I think will be pretty good.
5. Notre Dame (Note: Soft Schedule, best win home versus overrated Michigan State team)
6. Syracuse
7. North Carolina (Note: I am not scared of North Carolina)
______
The rest
__________
So overall outside of the Duke, Louisville, and Virginia the rest of the conference is pretty meh to mediocre in my opinion.

Syracuse has a chance to hang around and still make the NCAA Tournament.

He's talking like this because when the team fails, he'll be able to say, "I told you so."

And you know that because you've been a fan since the last time one of JAB's teams had a losing record. Oh wait, he never has had a losing season in 39 years of coaching. Maybe he will pull a Coach K and fake a back injury and take the season off. Seriously, fans like you don't deserve to be a Syracuse fan.

Michigan State overrated? Their "bad loss" this year is to ND.

You having Syracuse mentioned with NC, ND, or Miami right now is a little crazy. 2 straight losses, and a last second win against crap. They needed unreal games from Cooney and Roberson to pull this out.

Watching that PC is really sobering for the rest of this season. JB is clearly frustrated beyond words. I only saw the last 5 minutes of it live.

He seemed a lot more fired up on the sidelines today. Other games it seemed like he was kind of resigned to the team being young and struggling. Today he looked a little more amped up.
