A Professor

this makes me feel better. professors are all the same people. they want to be in the know, but very rarely are.

they say what they think very smartly, which makes them more believable.

professors dont know any more than we do.

I believe it's been said a few times, but Fab (as far as SU has said) is NOT ineligible. He is appealing something, and during that appeal he is not ineligible, but I assume being held out so the NCAA doesn't come sniffing around if he is later ruled ineligible.
I don't believe this is right. Fab Melo is ineligible to play, pending appeal. If he were eligible what the heck would he be appealing? Please explain because you lost me.

Unless this is the minuscule chance that the professor happens to be Fab's advisor or something. But more likely, you're right.

Just letting u know what he said

Why would they have a press release saying he will remain on the team? I'm thinking we're gonna get some bad news soon. Just a gut feeling.

I am only passing along what I heard in a summary. I believe what my brother said was that JB said that he doesn't know anything, but when the athletic department DOES know something, they will issue an "official statement". JB was not going to speculate nor discuss a student's private matter.

Everyone is reading way too deep into things right now.

If (and it's been repeated that this is not the case), but IF he was accused of cheating, he wouldn't be ineligible until proven guilty, but SU/Boeheim could tell him he wasn't playing until the issue was resolved. From all I've read here and elsewhere, no one has used the word ineligible.

But, as always, I could easily be mistaken.

I'm still lost. It's been discounted that he was accused of cheating, so this makes no sense. Plenty of people have used the word "ineligible," here and elsewhere. Not trying to argue with you, but I don't understand why you're bringing up a hypothetical involving cheating when we know that's not the case.

I'm using that hypothetical because it's entirely possible for him to be prevented from playing without being ineligible. Anyone who has used the word ineligible seems (at this point) to be engaging in speculation. But again, I could be wrong.

Also, when a player is ineligible, isn't he ineligible for a full semester?

That's right: the full semester...and that's what he's appealing. It's my understanding that he's been deemed ineligible and that would mean the rest of the season (pending the appeal). I have no clue why he would be allowed to practice; that makes no sense at all.

Fair enough. If he has indeed been deemed ineligible, then I have no idea why he'd be allowed to practice either.

If he taught a class, you'd most certainly fail. He talks so fast he breaks pencil tips. No one yet has been able to scribe one of his lecture, even in short hand. His crossover is that deadly.

Perhaps. Would be interesting to compare his works to Professor Boeheims "Zone theory" principles to see which reigns supreme. I'm not an expert in either but I think I could at least pull a C in both.

Interesting that he can practice.

That to me is the big statement there. If he's not going to play again for us, why would he be practicing with the team?

Kanter practiced all of last year with uk means nada imo

Was just about to reference this. Although, I sort of figured Fab would be kicked out of school...so if he's not being kicked out, what's the deal?

Indeed. Not to mention, it's likely out of the good subordinate's (I mean professor's) hands...a business decision sort of speak...like making an administrative economic decision in a frivolous lawsuit, etc. ;)

I guess the Kanter thing is a little different; this sounds like it's an academics issue, which is more of a school thing, whereas the NCAA ruled Kanter ineligible. But really, the only people who know aren't saying anything yet.

if you are appealing technically you are not ineligible until the appeal is over, just like in baseball when they appeal a suspension they keep playing until the appeal is ruled on, but in this case he is not playing in games because they could forfeit those games if he loses the appeal but since he is not ineligible until the conclusion of the hearing he can practice and could play but doesn't for the reasons I stated

at least that is how I understand it

I believe he has an incomplete in a course because the wrote the answers to the final exam in Portugese. It's also rumored that when he came to Florida his visa was invalid causing immigration to check its validity. He will be allowed to practice while a translator and immigration authorities check there respective issues.
