JB on McC

Jb is a smart guy, he wouldn't have made a comment if he didn't think the kid could handle it..

He's also arrogant, and comes off as a bully. Doesn't matter if he can handle it or not, it's not a good look. What's the point of publicly embarrassing him, when you can just tell him face to face? Only reason he does this in public is for his own ego, as a told you so to Chad Ford.

Boeheim: We can't get Chris McCullough to play bad. It'd be a step up from where he is
JB can be such an ass sometimes. I wonder how he'd feel if some old fool was trashing his kid?

would love one day to see jay bilas put a mic in mccullough's face after a 20 pt game and hear him say " i felt good out there today even though my coach is a clueless dinosaur"

Or he goes off in the national championship this year with 35 points, 20 boards, 10 blocks, and 12 assists, after a dagger three he looks at JB and says, "Hope you bought a lottery ticket old man!"

If he werent Chris McCollough his butt would be parked on the bench and not getting half the minutes he's getting so i dont want to hear about shattered confidence. Hes being allowed to play through a brutal stretch of bad play which is rare for a frosh on JB's teams. You cant allow freshman to play through mistake after mistake if you want to win and Mc is being afforded that luxury. Heck he's not even rebounding right now. JB's quotes are just tough love.

We heard the same crap last year about Roberson and he's snapping out of his shell just fine. MC will be a force once he adjusts to D1 ball and not dominating crappy competition.

which makes me think the Chad Forde's of the world are the primary target.

and they should be. Plenty of time between end of April and end of June when the draft is.

Too start talking and covering and ranking NBA draft prospects in November is just crazy.

You know how Al Pacino and Christopher Walken kind of took the persona they became most famous for and then became kind of caricatures of themselves? Jimmy B kinda feels like he's doing the same thing with the level of snark/sarcasm he's been employing.

I've mentioned a few times on how this looks to the outside world and wondered if it would have consequences in recruiting or has it had consequences in recruiting.

I know Bryant hasn't signed with anybody yet, but I just can't see this as a positive.

On a related point, has anyone ever heard Boeheim take responsibility for the poor play of his team in a press conference? Ever take responsibility for poor strategy, the failings of his players, etc.? Maybe he has and I just don't remember.

You don't remember the famous "a dead man gets that many rebounds" describing Conrad McRae's play back in the day?

Sure, he's said this sort of thing about a player a lot of times.

But never has he done this so consistently for several weeks. (Then again, I don't remember any Syracuse starter in my lifetime playing as badly as McCullough has for the last month.)

The repetitiveness of the comments is disappointing; it's not constructive, just gratuitous dumping on the player.

JB did mention Cooney's fast break screw ups - said on one he should have passed and kept it and another he should have kept it and threw it away
And then on the third one, a missed layup followed by a put back and goaltend. Just jinxed

It happens anyways.

CMac was convinced that he was a lock for the lottery long before the article came out. He's just marking time until the draft.

I don't think he's ready, and half the board doesn't think he's ready, and JB doesn't think he's ready ...

but CMac thinks he knows better.

Oh, he'll get drafted (because the NBA is all about potential), but he's in for a rude awakening next season.

The D League is filled with kids who have potential.
Maybe CMac has other reasons why he would want to enter the draft early, you don't know his background or where he's from. He may look at the draft as a way to help his family and if he decides to go and gets drafted I say good for him.

As for people saying that he had one foot out the door before he came here and needs to be brought down to earth, then why did Boeheim recruit him to come here in the first place. He knew what he was getting into when he was recruiting a player with CMacs skill and mindset of wanting to be one and done.

Also as many have stated JB keeps bringing this up and bashing CMac because of mock draft projections and trying to prove how ridiculous they are, which is pathetic. Bashing your own player repeatedly to make a point that is out of the kids control is quite petty.

It's too bad Bobby Davis got Lisa Lampinelli fired.

I agree. What's the point at this stage? It's not like he is a bad kid.
Lack of effort is obvious, JB is trying to lite a fire in the kid. Potential is there but he is not ding much.

You hear alot of NFL coaches say that type of thing. We have to play better. I have to coach better. etc etc.

Never heard James Arthur say anything like that. Perhaps its never his fault.

Could it be that he is a great basketball coach but like any other human being, once in a while does something stupid and regrettable? Why does it have to volley between "he is an idiot" vs "he is a mad genius that can do no wrong and you just dont understand."

Well it hasn't worked for over a month.

Another confidence builder quote
This kid does not need confidence boosting, he has an ego as big as a house. Unfortunately his play is not up to what he thinks of himself.

Outside of Coach K, anybody who questions him he could respond with what CuseHulk likes to say and that's "How many wins do you have?" I guess JB could do that to anybody who questions him.

On a press conference note, I wonder how many assistants who said Gerry was overrated ended up being head coaches.
