JB on Orange Nation at 1PM

Jim said he didn't realize that a press release on benny's status hadn't been issued. he denied he bullied the reporter. "He made a face. I've been grouchy for 47 years. I've answered 98% if the questions. 98% of the people on social media are not fans. When the season ticket holders get upset with me, I'll think about it a little more" He said Benny was OK. It's just bothering him that "he hasn't played the way he thinks he can and we think he can".
Only 2% of those of us on here are fans. Please identify yourselves.

He's representing the company even when hes not talking to employees. His interactions with the media are on company time.

A high profile coach is to project an image that reflects the institution in a positive way.

Sure. Have you heard high profile CEOs make public comments lately? Worse than being snarky to a reporter.

Would it be cool for KS or JW being rude to the local media? He's a representative of a school that is much much bigger than he is.

I don’t have a problem with anybody being rude to members of the media. They’re not some protected class that needs to be handled with kid gloves.

The number of empty seats in the lower bowl is concerning. Probably 20-30%, that's a lot of empty seats. This season isn't going to drive additional sales and will probably tank it a few more points. A 10% drop, for example, in season revenue before the season starts isn't going to make the math work very well. The university has grown fat and happy on having that chunk of money in their wallet prior to a game is even played.

Attendance is down about 10% at last look. But most of the program’s revenue doesn’t come from ticket sales. The largest chunk of the pie is revenue from the conference/tv deal. Then there’s the donations from season ticket holders. Then there’s the ticket sales. The program is still turning a profit and JB is out in a year or two. This isn’t going to and shouldn’t make the BoT jump at an opportunity to get him out now.

That's a good attitude to have for sales!

Fans aren’t making decisions to come to a game based on how the program or coach look in press conferences. Media coverage doesn’t drive attendance or eyeballs in this context.

What does being rude to a reporter have to do with sales?

I see you apparently know everything and everything is fine. Good luck with that. I'm sure next year will be different!

Disappointing reply. Sorry if I’ve offended you.

Seriously, who the hell cares? Some of you will latch onto anything that involves bashing JB.

If that’s the toughest interview that kid ever has, he’ll live a charmed life.

But think of the Program! Barstool tweeted a thing!

There haven't been any reports of internal misconduct, so it's all external issue with media. This isn't the same as going down to Sally in Accounts Receivable and telling her she's gross.
Remember that dog walking racist in Central Park who got fired?

Ridiculous, I mean how many people have to answer to the media after their workday ends?
To compare his attitude to the average Joe’s at their job is nuts.

Looks like the newly self appointed board expert has everything figured out. We shall see if that temper is also all sorted out :).

So the accused gets to determine or classify the incident, thats how it works in JBs world

The ‘accused’ gets to state his perspective. If he didn’t think he bullied him, then why wouldn’t he say he didn’t bully him?

You might classify it as bullying. The reporter might. I might not. JB doesn’t. There isn’t a singular truth that you or I, or the victim, or the accuser, or public opinion gets to decide. I don’t know why the ‘victim’ would get priority to say what did or didn’t happen. I certainly don’t know why anybody who isn’t the victim or accuser would get priority in determining ‘guilt.’

I gotta say, going with victim and accuser is a weird way to frame 15 seconds of rude comments about somebody’s perceived attitude.

While watching this, I thought Boeheim would come across well as I believe he often does when he's not in the heat of the moment. However, he really just came across just as bad. I like how he says he doesn't care about what people say yet makes several points about social media. His thin skin gets in the way of him being able to handle things better. Sometimes he just can't get out of his own way.

Wonder why this is suddenly such a serious issue now after 47 years? Like it or not, he’s always been dismissive to student reporters. So many of the great fans on this board don’t even bother to listen to the podcasts by people like Sean McDonough etc who happened to speak about how it was back in his day. Certainly has become a rallying point for some, suddenly when the team isn’t doing well, meeting expectations. Hmm. Interesting, if we were winning big , who did and would prioritize this? Brent Axe is having a ball with it too.

Personally agnostic to the tone of his pressers. I will say that the player call outs during pressers suck and never understood. As for being grouchy... meh. It does unfortunately get picked up on occasion and doesn't do much for a struggling program but otherwise it's just repetitive as you noted.

Why be rude to anyone?

Not what I’m saying. Be nice to people. Being nice is good and people should do it.

I’m just not going to make a mountain out of a mole hill when a coach who just lost a tough game decides to be less than nice to a reporter. The DO has written critical articles of JB, some fair some not. I’m not going to skewer him for being critical of their questions or their ‘attitude.’
