JB's Presser after BC

That's often a valid criticism, but not sure it would have helped in this case.
You're not sure? I'm sure what JB is doing now DOESN'T work! JB never has, never will change his in game philosophy so TRYING full court press for longer periods won't happen.

JB has done nothing but change his philosophy over time. When he started, he was M2M with 2-3 zone on inbounds under the basket. Overtime, he figured out most teams can't shoot consistently, so he is Mr. 2-3.
He used to run a great motion offense. Now, due I think to his exposure to the NBA game, believes Pick N Roll and ISO ball is the way to go.
What JB isn't is reactionary. With enough info, he might change his offense. With more good players, he may not have to.

That was sort of funny the whole Marek/Moyer/Chukwu segment where he sort of laments that all three aren’t capable of scoring this year, lol. I mean I guess he’s right but RECRUIT GUYS WHO CAN! Everybody expected Moyer to be better but man it’s hard watching him play. He’s a mess.

Moyer hustles his @ss off but your right its brutal watching him play extended minutes. Never seen an SU forward with so little offensive game, there simply isnt any.

My issue: this is awful, that is awful. Where are the adjustments? The press sucks. Why don't we try to do it differently. Out of bounds play: can we get an easy layup out of one of them when we are under our basket?

Guys like Marek can't shoot, JB says. But guys like Marek have had good shooting games. Yet he says they can't shoot. That really pumps 'em up.

The press wasn't going to do shyt last night. It looked terrible in this game, some of that was our guys and some was, they made a concerted effort to get the ball to Bowman. He actually sought out who had the ball and went and made himself available and went and got it. Then it was 90 mph to the rim, or he'd go over half court and turn back and set up the offense.

Hasn’t Boeheim said repeatedly that having a short bench doesn’t matter? That kids play all day and with media timeouts every four minutes, they shouldn’t get tired?

And now, he changes his tune... saying that our guards are tired now?

Which one is it? Whichever one will fit the narrative?

Think we will be a lot better next year but if we are another bubble team or below, someone needs to do something.

He said they cannot score - right now - which is different than saying they cannot shoot.

FWIW it doesn't seem like Moyer can shoot a lick, or for that matter turn in the right direction. Maybe he's a developmental forward that will be able to shoot it a bit in a couple of years.

So now our guards are tired but didn't he always say there were all the TV timeouts and team timeouts so they don't get tired. Also said that PC, MM, and Marek cannot score. Whose fault is that, that they have not developed throughout the season. You think by now PC would have some kind of low post game after a red shirt year, last year give some what of a pass due to eye injury, and then this season. If BS was healthy all scorer would say by far he would be our 4th scorer this year. We saw glimpses of that against Pitt.

JB really sounds spent. He doesn't see how he can get anything else out of this team.
Good thing he doesn't have to worry about that much long then eh?

Also... re Hughes. They liked Moyer enough to initially recruit him and NOT hughes from the same team. What does that tell you about Hughes??

It does make you at least go huh, did you change your mind now? He did the same thing earlier in the year when talking about Marek, hearing how he was too skinny to play, etc. and that was a bunch of bull, and how Warrick was 180 lbs when he got here, etc., or something along those lines. No more than a couple of weeks later, he said the complete opposite after losing and getting hammered on the boards.

He backtracked on this on his show last week; didn't get much attention here. According to SWC, Boeheim said that "32 minutes is optimal" for a player to play.

Would love to hear him asked why that's optimal and whether he's revisited the idea that college kids don't get tired.

"we've got three guys that score"
Yes, we know. You are pointing out the problem and yet no solutions have been forth coming all year. Marek not only didn't score, he Took ZERO shots. Im not positive, but I'm fairly certain Garry Payton wasn't denying him the ball.
Isn’t that Marek’s fault for not looking to score? JB lamented this in his press conference. Their worst defender is usually on him. He just lacks confidence to look to attack or to look for openings. He’s showed he’s capable of hitting a mid range shot or getting into the lane in games against Miami and others.

Way too much east-west dribbling by Moyer. It's like he's determined to prove he can dribble through his legs. The basket is THAT WAY.

Moyer has no confidence right now in his offense. Looks shattered and needs everything to be retooled. Lots of work to do with him.

Watching Oshae and Moyer dribble between their legs is a sight to see.

Boeheim says things.....

I am told

No coach in the world is taking this group of players and turning it into something else.

Sick of Jim saying 3 guys scored, can score etc. He discourages you from day 1 if he doesn’t THINK you’re a shooter, or you have a bad first few games of the season. I always look back to what Paul Harris could have been, if not for being in Jim’s doghouse. He decided he couldn’t shoot at all from day 1, and it stunted his development. Let the kids play a little bit!

soooo true, he has been quick to label kids throughout his career. He tries to ID his shooters early, drop everyone into an early category of a role and this explains why his bench is always short and young kids dont develop. Its old school and stubborn. Never understood how he is mentioned with the elite coaches of the sport. If Melo chooses another school, he never wins a natty and for all hung up on # of wins; its called longevity and about 60% of those wins are in the dome against the likes of Cornell, the Bonnies, and colgate. Just a few years ago did we start scheduling some significant road games in the non conference , only after we didn't go dancing d/t a poor SOS.

He is protecting his guys when he says they are tired.
