JB's Presser after Seattle

Did he come into the presser upset with something or someone??

Sounded a little like that with his brusque attitude in the beginning that lessened as time went on.

Those comments in response to not playing Jalen Carey are HARSH!!! Wonder if JB is trying to get JC to go ahead and transfer opening schollie for next year.

Not sure opening a scholarship for next year is of any importance. A scholarship was going to be available for Jackson. Now they might not even use it unless they discover someone who interests them. Richmond will make for a more crowded backcourt next year, so everyone is aware of that, especially Carey.

Didn't watch the presser beyond the caustic opening comments showing apparent intent to avoid discussing the most interesting story of the game.
He lost me there -too disappointed in that to continue watching and risk impact on positive vibe.

JB has never been at his best in a situation where he feels like his judgment is being questioned.
I think its why we perceive the wide gap in his treatment of the "local" media versus "national" media. For the most part the "national" media is focusing on the big picture and willing to take his statements about specific things at face value. They are gathering information for one or two stories per season for an audience that wants broad bush descriptions of what is going on at SU.
The "local" media on the other hand has to churn out new material every day or every other day, so they are getting deeper into the weeds, including questioning strategies, particular decisions and/or playing time decisions.

JB is not at all comfortable being asked to defend his decisions. Then again, how many of us are?

I wish coaches would understand that a question about why they did something isn't necessarily an implication that they shouldn't have done it.

The first rule of JB’s pressers is you can ask about the players

The second rule of JB’s pressers is that only JB can speak about the players

His pressers are uncomfortable- it’s like watching your first episode of The Office and waiting for Michael to say something cringeworthy.

Of significance though, is that some coach not named Boeheim is going to inherit one helluva Senior PG.

Agreed. I clicked out at about the 11 minute mark knowing something cringey was probably coming down the pike. He's not good with uncomfortable silences. He's not figuring it out now but he needs to just walk away from the podium.

I agree. I do not care what his political views are (Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Socialist etc.) just stick to basketball.

Buddy or Richmond will end up at the 3. Mark it down.

I enjoyed the entire presser. I appreciate how informative JB is about the players including what they did well and what to work on. I appreciate his directness. It’s pathetic how averse people are to it, clamoring for a shiny happy coach.

I thought the comment at the end was deserved and he delivered it concisely.

Appreciate your perspective, but not the delivery.
Taking exception to JB's sometimes caustic persona doesn't equate to "clamoring for a shiny happy coach".
Most everyone appreciates directness -especially when delivered in a civil manner.
There's a middle ground.

Bet you’d be singing a different tune if you agreed with him.

For me, time following sports is an opportunity to get away from all politics/etc, whether aligned or not.
The world views or politics of JB or any figure in sports/music/hollywood/etc are not important to me.
Of course, they are entitled to promote their views -and fans can turn them off.

girard looks great. Pretty unreal how confident he is. His handle has impressed me the most out of all his traits. Just gotta see if a big time guard (physically and athletically) can shut him down. Even if he can though, still takes focus off other guys.

Kind of like the way James Dean finishes this scene:

Big. Balls. Joe.

What Girard did, and how his teammates respond when he's at PG do raise the excitement level for SU fans.
Understand JB's presser goal of deflecting a press overreaction/cheerleading for Girard.
Still, can't understand why JB had to end a fun night for SU fans with a caustic buzzkill presser.
Fans follow SU hoops for entertainment, hoping the best for our team and riding along with the ups/downs.
Last night was an up, until JB's presser. Rather than having to forget what JB said, would have preferred a response (and maybe a smile) that acknowledged a fine performance by a freshman making his first start at PG, THEN adding all the caveats to keep everyone's feet on the ground. Just acknowledge that it was FUN!
As noted, Calipari won Isaiah Jackson yesterday. Not a Calipari fanboy, but he's an example of a head coach that always plays to the press/cameras and promotes his brand. That can only help recruiting, vs being caustic.
At the core, this is entertainment. The focus should always be a rewarding experience for players and fans.
While fully acknowledging JB's success, HOF credentials, and right to coach and present himself as he damn well pleases, as a fan I sometimes find it very hard to understand why with all of that JB can still find it necessary to be so caustic. Sometimes makes it hard to be a fan of the program.
Read his book. At his core JB is insecure and extremely sensitive to criticism. His defense of this is by being aggressive. Its why small dogs bark more than large dogs.

Wow...what the?!? JB gets Belichick-like when asked about Girard immediately after his opening monlogue:

"Can you talk about Girard? How he...", interupts with a curt, "Yeah he was good...(slaps podium rhythmically, then raises voice in both pitch and volume) Anything else?!".

"What made him so effective tonight?". "He made shots. Next."

Would anyone here get that ticked off from that question? Over 13 minutes left and he asks "Anything else?". I haveven't watched beyond that(about 2 minutes in), but wanted to post this to see what others thought.
I'm definitely a Boeheim supporter but the way he responded to a perfectly good question like that rubbed me wrong. Why Jimmy has to conduct himself like a turd at times is beyond me. Still love the guy, just wish he wasn't so crusty. He's clearly a very sensitive person who tries to mask it.

What was strange was he at first didn’t want to talk about Girard. Probably didn’t want to add to the hype machine. But later in the presser he talked about him a couple times in a positive manner.

I think you're 100% right. I just wish Boeheim would realize there are other ways of doing things at times than coming across like a jerk. I also don't think Boeheim is a jerk - he just doesn't filter himself very well.

Long-time fan. After sporadically viewing this forum starting last season, waded in as new poster on this thread. I lack the perspective on previous discussion of this topic that those with thousands of posts have. This thread appears to indicate the leaning here is toward "that's JB" and fans expressing disappointment when JB exhibits his caustic side are "pathetic", "clamoring for a shiny happy coach", "annoying", "nit-picking".

JB is the face of the program: when he exhibits his caustic side, my first thought every time is "what do potential recruits think of this?". Saying "that's JB" and being an apologist (or indicating none necessary) overlooks the negative impact of his caustic persona. JB is a legend -there's no denying there's a lot of good things to say about what he's done for the program, university, Coaches vs Cancer, etc. Regardless, IMHO his caustic side hurts the program. Therefore I take exception, and find no excuse for it.

We're all aware of our shortcomings. JB could address this shortcoming, but has chosen not to. Therefore yes "that's JB" and nothing will change -this will be the face of the program on his watch. The negative role JB's caustic persona plays in the perception of SU hoops nationally and likely by some recruits is unfortunate, IMHO. As a fan, I'm embarrassed for JB when he exhibits his caustic side, and also very disappointed because of the face it puts on the program.

If my perspective is perceived here as fitting the quoted responses above, fine.
