Jerami Grant stays vs. Jerami Grant goes

In the NBA what makes Grant special now, his freakish athleticism, is everywhere in the NBA.

I'd put Grant up against almost anyone in the NBA in terms of athleticism. He's close to a Josh Smith level of athletic ability (might even be there).

LOL! Josh Smith, well, it's possible I guess. I love Grant. I think he's a terrific 2nd year college player.

Holy crap this right up there with the guy who though tennis was the best PG in Syracuse history.

I love the speculation in this thread about how player X would have been a lottery pick then stayed too long. What are you basing this from? NBAdraft.net, Chad Ford? Until the workouts and interviews are over you can't say anyone a sure lotto pick outside very few players.

Well, assuming tennis means Ennis, he may turn out to be the best PG in SU history or at least in the company of the top 3. But to Compare Grant to Josh Smith is a tough one to swallow. Smith is an inch bigger and stronger. I don't think Smith even played in college but I am not sure.

Grant is moving up the draft boards and is currently projected as borderline lotto. Since his shooting deficiencies are already known, barring injury or other players exploding, I don't really think he is going to drop and is likely to rise if he simply continues his developmental curve. I predict lottery and gone.

As an aside, it may be better for him to go just inside the lottery, as the odds favor a better team with those picks.

Big difference between "maybe he'll be the best, possibly top 3," and "Tyler is the best PG in Syracuse history right now, in December of his freshman year.

And Smith never played college.

pete, the floor was yours to bring out the mop & slop bucket and send little boy blue here back to buffalo with a tear in his eye, his blankee and a baba...and i cant say you really failed, wouldve liked a little more fire, but all in all a solid effort.

however, lets just take a look at what happened here...alsacs is actually out here apologizing for his response posts for crying out loud!! i know its Christmas but come on man!! pete, you couldve come out here like wyatt earp at the OK Corral firing at both clanton and mclaury, so you get a couple of demerits.

but thank god we didnt let the holiday go by without at least 1 more 'this team has blank players who will be in the NBA' thread.

Oh Lord
The kid was being overtly enthusiastic and I didn't want to be a Scoorge to that. I don't think we have a chance in ever going undefeated and wanted to make that point, but not crush the kid. My response was dead on I just didn't want him to feel bad, but even he admitted he was hitting the bottle.

I wish he'd follow the Hakim Warrick plan. Show glimpses of athleticism and potential as a freshman. Come in as a sophomore, put up solid numbers as the secondary forward receiving less attention that the "star". Take over as "the man" as a junior and put up big numbers, solidifying a lengthy (even if underwhelming) NBA career...

His career ended because the day before he was signing his contract he shattered his foot.

And it hasn't ended yet. He will be back in the league next year IMO.
Listen I hope Donte comes back and is healthy and plays in the NBA. I have no malice against the kid I just felt he was the only guy who has left early that I felt was wrong to do so. I don't blame him as he got drafted in the first round, but if the kid came back and stayed till after his Sophomore year I think he goes higher than 27 in the draft and is more ready to be an NBA player. He felt otherwise and has made more money thus far than a lot of people will ever make. The kid has given back to SU unlike others and I thank him for that I just wish he waited 1 more year. I feel the negative reaction he has gotten at the Dome since he left was very disappointing from some of our fans.

We would have a complete starting 5, but the depth is still a question mark especially when it comes to shooting. If BJ develops like I expect him to that'll give us a second shooter, and Ennis will be a solid but certainly not a great shooter...so who else is knocking down perimeter jumpers? Buss could, but that's three shooters (including TC and BJ) vying for time at the same position, especially since, if we have Grant, he will be getting 30-35 minutes at SF.
By next year I expect G to contribute along the perimeter more often. He has a good shot, he just needs to earn JB's trust yet which I suspect he'll do during ACC play.

I keep forgetting about him. But that's another guy at a position where we are loaded. Now if Grant leaves, he could play the 3 and now we are talking.

I remember the good old days...when threads created to discuss topics of pure speculation, rooted in nothing other than sheer boredom, (such as, 'Hey, what if this guy decides to leave?') were summarily pounced upon with piercing sarcasm and smart ass responses. Yep, those were the days...when said authors were crucified mercilessly and made to feel lothesome for wasting the board's time.

Jerami Grant isn't ready to go pro, so to discuss the topic is a waste of time. Come back and re-post the thread in April after the trophy comes home to Syracuse. Only then will this will be a relevant question.

I had no idea you were an NBA scout Pete, this thread was just made for conversation amongst forum contributors! You should really upgrade to the forums insiders section.

Oh it'll take a lot for you guys to make me feel bad. I admitted I posted something ridiculous, the 40-0 thing, I could have taken it down but I'm fine with laughing at myself and giving others a laugh too.

At the end of the day the most of you guys are words on a computer screen to me.

KaiserUEO you can try your best man, I keep coming back.

At some point you guys are going to figure out that shooting is a learned skill, and the NBA isn't afraid of guys that don't shoot a great percentage as a young player. They coach that pretty well at that level.

how many times are you going to ask this question, Trueblue? It's December and this must be the 14th or 15th time you've floated the topic.

The way i always look at it with these dudes staying or going is that while it would always be sweet if they stay, if we have the season we all hope we do then they will be gone. I would take a ff run and a national championship over a guy coming back for another year and potentially having that monster linup any day.
