Jesse Edwards Out For The Season

Tough tough loss. Most important player on the team. Jesse covered up a ton of bad perimeter defense and offensively was a monster.

Frank can dunk, but he doesn't have Jesse's hands, instincts, or moves around the basket.
He is a garbage man with good hands. Cannot create and cannot defend without fouling. He will expand his game but the team reaching 500 is a long-shot. Neither Benny nor Sid is the answer. Life is like a box of chocolates...

Wow! I feel that this guy knows almost as much as the posters on this board! In my opinion, far too many Buddy references.
What color is the sky in your world? We are all focused on Jesse and how the Orange play the rest of the season without him. You say "too many Buddy references"??? Few of us are confused what you are talking about?

Is it? It was attached to the Boeheim interview. The comment was “this guy” Boeheim, “knows almost as much as the posters on this board”. That was a reference to all the “drunk guy at the end of the bar” type comments on this board criticizing a brilliant basketball mind. I was being sarcastic. Then I echoed some of the inane commentary by stating that he had too many Buddy references in the interview. That paralleled much of the “coaches son” criticisms here. Can you really add to the base of my information? I seriously doubt it. I do understand this is a message board where strong views and commentary are accompanied by the thoughts of fools and knaves. Now leave the grown ups alone.
?????????

Our season now rests on Sid's knees.

Compared to what? Between 1976 and Arinze's injury (35 years) we had 2 scoped knees to Louis Orr and Leo Rautins. They didn't miss much time. Since AO there's been quite a few. I'd have to look it up but Sidibe every year comes to mind.
Rautins and Devo tearing their ACLs, having surgery and missing all (Rautins) and most (Devo) of the 2007-08 season.

Well, if I'm interpreting what I'm hearing correctly from the coaches, Sidibe was kept on the shelf largely because Jesse became such a viable player and Frank was growing into a solid backup. They didn't want to work Sidibe hard just to play spot minutes. He may be able to have a larger role than it first appeared to be the case.
Sidibe is a feel good roster piece . If he could play regular minutes, they’d have given him the chance . Jb doesn’t Wally pip players

Winning streak is in real danger. Will be an amazing coaching job if Boeheim manages to rescue the season. Nice way to head out the door with good memories and goodwill. I will avoid making mention of the roster management as a major reason for the situation we find ourselves in.
People who complain about “roster management” talk like all JB had to do was go draft a couple more guys.
1. Need to convince guys to come here.
2. When you don’t get guys you identified, you’re not going to offer people just to fill the spots.

Those few are probably not the focus of my comment. I could explain it again and s l o w e r. In short, the comment was intended to be attached to the Boeheim interview. Take it from there if you are able.

I was kind of hoping sid could rest the pine for the remainder of the season and apply for a redshirt for year 18.

Kidding aside, feel for Jesse and hopeful for a quick heal and positive outcome for this young man who has really been a great story, and player, this season.

Yeah you got it.
The HC who is responsible for keeping the roster full is doing a great iob with roster management.

How many SGs have we recruited the last 3 years?
JB speaks out of both sides. He said we turned guys down last offseason.

He has managed the roster to a degree we can’t get 4 playable guards anymore.
Kids aren’t stupid. Maybe if we didn’t run our players into the ground we could get more to come and stay.

Brandon Triche/Scoop Jardine/Dion Waiters all better players than what we have now were managed differently and we still played a 4th gusrd.

Harder to get guys to come when you ride your main 5 35 plus.

We have recruited numerous shooting guards. I don’t think you understand the word recruiting. You can review the recruiting board. Offering a kid a chance to come and play doesn’t require the kid to do so.
Ultimately, the kids decide the roster, and the coaches build around their choices.
Do I wish JB and staff did a better job getting kids to sign? Absolutely. Has they fallen short in recruiting, yes. But that is not roster management that is recruiting, and for that the coach can offer, but he can’t draft kids to fill out the team.

That a false argument to me, because we don’t know how many minutes guys would have with better bench guys. In fact, last year’s split with Joe and Kadary proves the opposite. KR averaged 21 minutes per game, directly taking away minutes from one of the alleged “anointed ones” who get all of the minutes.
Just keep spouting the falsities

Everything in this line of reasoning is based on the faulty emotionally based logic regarding that situation. Regarding the current issue with Jesse's injury and the 5, Bourama was asked to return for just this possibility. They wanted Jesse to get minutes because they know what kind of talent he is. They wanted Frank to be the backup because of his off the charts athleticism and what that can become. If they went after a transfer center that had any real ability, he would want significant PT. They did not want to commit a roster spot to a total project who would not be of any use in this situation, and certainly not more capable than JBA if it comes to that. JBA is the 4th forward as well, they did not want another player there that would want minutes that were allocated for Benny.

I think what he means is that kids can look at the history of SU basketball and realize that this is a real possibility. Of course, it's ultimately up to the individual recruit to decide if he wants to try to carve out significant playing time here, or become one of those 35 minute guys.

Frank looks like he has some potential - at least defensively - we were an NIT bubble team - might as well get these two playing - I'm pretty sure one of them is going to end up a real good player

And we've been using 8 guys anyway:

I like Frank. Sadly this season seems like a wash, had a glimmer of hope after the last few games, but that seems crushed. Hopefully the silver lining is Frank, and Benny get serious chances for development. Not much else to be excited about...

Frank is going to benefit tremendously as a result of increased playing time. Same with Benny. The odds of making the dance were looooong.
Hopefully Jesse decides to return next year. If not Jim needs to go hard for a transfer. The frosh is green and injured so we will need help if Jesse leaves which could happen.

There is a lot of evidence that Jesse probably should have played more last year than he did. It wasn't until our backs were completely against the wall at the end of February that JB committed to him as part of the rotation.

There is no doubt in my mind we are recruited against for it.
