Jessie Edwards 4 pts / 4 to’s

The more we keep shoving him down on the block and expecting him to cook, the more time we’re wasting.

You are exactly right in what he should be doing and who he is.
See, you say this, but who do you give those opportunities to on offense in place of that?

The weirdo forwards?

Even more shots for Joe and Judah?

I keep saying, people keep talking about things as though they're in an ideal state.

They're not. We're not.

Continuing to invest in Jesse and giving him opportunities to learn on the fly is our highest upside play.

Use him rolling towards the hoop.

He’s not a freshman. Invest in what?

Yes.
Yeah I'm not down with that plan.

We already lack diversity to our offense. Rim rolling Jesse more may get him an occasional additional shot, but that action likely means more cranks for Joe and Judah.

JB just called me, he said he's going to reduce Jesse's post up opportunities and will give those shot attempts to Bell and fans can go right ahead and

top gun deal with it GIF

We don’t need diversity in offense, we need to be efficient.

He’ll see film on this and hopefully adjust. I don’t think our staff expected it or prepped him for it.
I look forward to this line being taken out of context in a couple weeks and applied as fact, something along the lines of “wasn’t it said on this board a couple weeks ago that the staff didn’t prepare Jesse for double teams”

nope...just that he should try to practice against double teams even more than he already has. (if he has)
Here's the problem--

Similar to what the talking heads say about the SU zone. You can practice against it all you want, but what you see in the game (especially when SU has its preferred length on the wings) is different.

Same with UVa's post-to-post doubling. Practice against it, but it's difficult to duplicate the Cavs' size, athleticism, and discipline.

Jb didnt have to teach O with the talent he had. Once that run ended he went ISO. Now that we are down to Joe and Judah hes lost.
Lets face it jims well has run dry and he doesn't have the juice or desire to work hard enough to land elite talent like he used to. Good talent you bet but not " just roll the ball out". Talent. We will end with a winning record and if we get hot a shot at the NIT.
NCAA is out.

Imagine if we played defense similarly though. Then it wouldn’t be as big of a deal to play against?

Like I said early in the year, Jesse needs room to score. He has no body strength to have any kind of low post up game. He needs quick rolls to the basket and lobs for dunks. That’s his game. Without shooters surrounding him, he will struggle to score inside. He’s also non-aggressive. His defensive rebounding this year has been great. He’s a very good passer, but SU’s offense doesn’t take advantage of it. But then again, passing in this offense is not high on the list of must do’s.
the lack of passing drives me crazy.

In 2013 MCW was very successful at blowing by his man, drawing a double team and dishing to a slashing CJ or Grant. There's no logical reason why Judah shouldn't be able to do this as well with how quick he is, with dumping off to Jesse or one of our forwards. But it seems like our entire offense is one-on-one hero ball.

He has to learn to use the double team to get teammates open looks.

Virginia took away the passing lanes and I agree he does but this had to be worked on in practice so players knew where to go once this happened. A cut by Brown to the basket depending on where Jessie received the ball or a quick pass to the open shooter which while watching this game seemed to be difficult to see. As we all know there's a man open somewhere and Jessie has to recognize who and where fairly quickly.
