As I mentioned in the http://syracusefan.com/threads/where-in-the-world-is-jimmy-boeheim-iago.89626/

I'm a skycap at the Syracuse Hancock airport. Jim, Julie and the kids flew out on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately it was just before my shift started so I didn't get to help them with their many bags from the curb and check them in and get their boarding passes and such but a fellow skycap of mine did.

Well today they returned home during my shift around 3:00 or so off the American Chicago flight. I was immediately saw Julie at baggage claim and a fellow Skycap of my radio me that Coach Boeheim and family came off the American Chicago flight so keep a lookout in baggage claim. I was nervous to approach Julie but another fellow skycap an old timer on the job brought me over and introduced me and offered my services which she thankfully accepted. Let me tell you something Julie is an absolute sweetheart as I'm sure many here know already. I helped her with the 6 bags and waited for the bags to come around the carousel and load them onto my cart. She asked me how long i had been here I told her about almost 2 months told her I was a recent college grad starting out trying to get some money for an apartment, she asked what i wanted to go into and if i liked the job. Again an absolute sweetheart this woman is.

Finally got all the bags, She told me to follow the kids out and Jim's outside with the car. I get out of the terminal and there is Coach Boeheim waiting with the back trunk of their SUV open. I'm literally star struck and remain so to this moment. He immediately hands me a #20 dollar bill for a tip, and I load the luggage into the back of the SUV. I asked him how was Miami he said wonderful I knew they went to Miami when they flew out and Julie told me they had a friend i believe with a house down there she said and they had gone down since the kids were on spring break. He wasn't intimidating or any other public perception of him may be. Yes, doesn't have the personality Julie has. But he was fine. I wanted to shake his hand before i left but got a call on the radio and he was fixing the luggage around in the back of the car. Julie thanked me again and said hope to see you again in the future. Again an absolute sweetheart this woman is.

It was a really cool thing. In the 2 months almost i have been working at the airport saw Mike Hopkins at the gate area waiting for his flight to Charlotte we exchanged hi very nice, and Adrian Autry in the terminal getting checked in for his flight to Washington DC.

Again just a really cool thing.

Which reminds me of the time I shared a flight with Sherman Douglas after his rookie season in the NBA. We were flying from Baltimore to Syracuse as I think he was taking some classes. After we got our luggage I saw him sitting on the curb outside the terminal waiting for his ride. I asked him if I could give him a lift but he said he was all set.

Which also reminds me of the time I shared a flight with Donovan McNabb from Phoenix to Philly that I shared the story on here before. He was only in the NFL a couple years then so he was still riding back in coach. I assume after he started making bigger money he sat in first class but I could be wrong to make that assumption. Anyways he sat a couple rows ahead of us and I had to figure out how to go talk to him and get him to sign something. After he got up to use the restroom I went up to him before he got all cozy with his ear buds in and talked to him a little bit. And no, I did not ask him if he washed his hands after he did his business.

6 bags..$20?

That's really the most u will get paid for bag jobs of that size.

Example I did a 6 or so bag job plus car seats and strollers earlier and got stiffed which I was not happy about because it was a party of least 6 and a lap child and got their boarding passes and changed grandma's seat on one of their flight's because she was not seated near there rest of them.

Reminds me of the time I was at Tony Roma's on Universal Dr and I took a leak at a urinal next to Telly Savalas. Found out from a bar tender that he actually lived there.

Last season, on two different Jet Blue fights from NYC to Syracuse, my random seat mates were Sean McDonough and Gary Parrish. Both were great company. On a flight from Syracuse to NYC a few years ago, my random seat mate was Jim Brown (not a pleasant experience).

Miami to Syracuse thru Chicago?

No wonder the airlines keep losing money. :p

Must not have invested money in airlines over the last few years?

They have cut capacity (which was insane in the 90's and 00's) and done common sense things like taxiing on 1 engine, cutting unnecessary weight, etc (also not lowering prices as gas lowered :()... to make record profits.

Delta stock has more than tripled in 18 months.

Pretty easy to make a profit when they cut out the free peanuts. Give me the good old days. :D
I used to fly a decent amount for business. Enough for two free round trips to the Caribbean every year. Now since 9/11 it has become such a headache that I cringe when I need to fly somewhere.

You stiff a skycap at an NYC-area airport and you can be sure that, wherever you are going, your bags will be going someplace else.

Great story, Hulk. Thanks for sharing! Just got back from a slow travel day from Charleston, SC. All airports in NYC area were rough so we lost a few hours. Glad to be home, no good brushes with fame, but I did get a remark from a lady whose son is a soph at SU now. Wore my colors proudly day of arrival and day of departure.

Yep delays and a few cancellations to and from Philadelphia, and DC also.

Ooof, so glad not cancelled. That was my biggest concern today. They changed the departure time at least 7 times.

Just replying because I like the term "bag jobs".
(Good story too, Hulk)

U flew back to syracuse ? What airline and what city did u come from back ?

Actually have family in Summerville. Took the US AIR Syracuse to Charlotte, Charlotte to Charleston.

Also done connections through DC.

Advice to all never ever fly to, from, connect from Philadelphia while flying US AIR. The US AIR baggage office gets busy from people off arriving Philly flights with lost/misplaced or damaged bags.

Flew into Newark. Live in NJ. Newark's not too bad. Grew up very close to LGA and still one of my favorite airports. Btw, Summerville is nice, heard good things about it. We missed a few things to do there as we stayed mostly around downtown Charleston. And thanks for the Philly tip!
