JJ is the only ACC level player on the roster

Eddie can't play defense which is a huge problem and probably the biggest problem with this team.

I like him on offense more or less, but the next defensive rotation that he makes this season will be the first.

We were up 8 in first OT and Carlos's man hit 2 3s and Carlos fouled him for 2 more points next time down court. Combine that with the fact he can't shoot and we have a major problem. Team defense is beyond horrible. Texas might beat us by 25-30.

Eddie was probably the 5th best player on 10 seed Colorado last year. He wasn’t even a top 5 player on a 20-19 TCU team the year prior.

He’s been an average P5 player at best his whole career but here he is clearly one of our most important players.

Not a very good sign

We haven’t had a post player that can score or pass like him since Coleman - not even close - he can take anyone and bully them to point blank bunny range - he rebounds like a beast - can he play goalie? No

I don't like giving predictions on records because there are just too many variables, but this is easily the worst team I've watched in Orange with my eyes.
Even the Buddy, Jimmy and the JG3 team could blow out low majors, low mid-majors and mid-majors like LeMoyne, Colgate and Youngstown respectively.

We’ll see what he can do when he can’t rebound as easily. I feel like people will act shocked. I won’t be.
His defense (lampkin) is not good, but offensively he bullied a 7‘3” guy all day and rebounded well. Despite not being able to elevate, he got seven offensive boards, often when he was out of position. Works hard on the boards. I think his rebounding will be fine. His defense is his weakness.

Taylor did some real good things today. He plays hard and plays defense. He will stay in the rotation.
He played pretty good defense and made free throws. But he also played 19 minutes with zero rebounds zero assist zero steals zero blocks and several bonehead plays.. I’d rather see Choppa get the majority of those minutes

He is also the least of our troubles. And your evaluation is correct
This is the player I expected Starling to be on offense this season. But it’s shocking that a kid who’s as quick as JJ can’t slide his feet faster and keep his man in front of him a little better. He never seems like he gets low in his stance. It’s almost like he standing straight up. I feel like I saw a small bit of improvement in his defense this game, but maybe it was just a mirage. I gotta believe that he can improve his defense as the season goes on and the team starts working together as a unit on D. What do you think?

Must not have watched much or have a short memory. Defense is bad but to say worst team you have watched when compared to the last couple of JB’s team is over the top.

This is the worst SU team in more than 50 years.
Pre-Boeheim as head coach.
And back before the Final Four team of '74-'75.
In terms of talent and being able to play the game.
Must not watched the last few years of JB’s tenure.

It makes the guards poor defense even more glaring.

that's true, forgot about the Colgate losses
Those Colgate teams had better talent than the current Colgate team.

The slim hope for the current SU team is that Freeman and Moore develop week to week to take on bigger roles. Bell is better than he showed yesterday. We don’t beat Youngstown without Starling playing a career game. How often will that happen?

I think it's being overlooked that in 3 games we've had 4 different guys now put up 20 points or more and Freeman got 19 last game so it's a matter of time before we get a fifth. We share the ball well and it seems like scoring isn't an issue despite the cold shooting from 3 so far.

Warm that up and figure out how to not be a complete tire fire on defense and we'll look a lot different.

I fully understand the pessimism because the defense is unbelievably bad so far and we don't appear to have a lot of urgency to fix it, but if we can get even a little better there's still a lot of season left.

And you must not have watched a game this year or really don't know what you're watching.

speaking offensive rebounds specifically, if he can continue at this clip I’ll be impressed and surprised

Biggest improvement on D last game was Freeman. I think he sat most of the second half against Colgate and got the message. Slid to help at rim Much better. The guy he was covering had a lot of points at the rim, but they were shots he had to adjust. Much better effort, slightly better results.

Still not sure why Red has Lampkin guarding a 7’3” center 20 feet from the basket leaving the lane open. When he was up there, he did a good job hedging few times on the point guard after screens, but if their center had any kind of pick and roll game at all, he was rolling to the hoop uncovered, each time. I really think keeping Eddie in the paint would help us, so he does not have to chase. On the flipside, his offensive skillset is a combo of Arinze and Sherman Douglas. Very fun to watch and missing on our team for years.

Agree with all of this, Freeman was night and day better on the defensive end.

Your second point, their stiff didn't even play too much but when he did that's all they did and it was maddening, not one adjustment. I don't know why they're not keeping him down there, if you're not, the help defense needs to be so much better.
