JMA Dome turns 45: Looking back at how this icon came to be

Didn’t know that Al Davis bought naming rights to the home locker room. I’ve never heard of him being connected with SU Football later in his life.

How many of us attended the last game at Archbold? I’ll start it as #1
2. Some pics from the Sunday morning after.

My fraternity brother came back bloodied with a large piece of the goal post after that final game. Wish I had pictures.

I have told the story before, but I almost got arrested the night before the final game. We told a pledge in my car to steal the “Welcome to Archbold Stadium-1914” sign. He got it too. But police came and pinned my car in as I was driving away and took the sign away. They read us the riot act but let us go. Lucky I wasn’t arrested I guess!!

Wasn’t like that was going to be used again? Should have let you take it

Are you talking about the Tenn kicker? Or have I had too much Pinot Noir and am having Gary Anderson flashbacks?
Wait, you're drinking Pinot Noir on a football Saturday?

Yep sure did. There’s a picture of all the fans on the field, and there I am in the end zone ripping up some turf as a keepsake. Had some of that and then a piece of orange railing as keepsakes.

God blessed sister threw it all out when I was at college, so pissed. Luckily a few years ago ran across an old piece of bench at a thrift store so happy to have that, along with my Ben and Mac poster wirh old Archie in the background.

With all of the advanced AI photo apps you could probably enhance that old picture!!

Nice! What end zone did you get the turf? I got a clump, as well as a swath of the netting for XPs and FGs, from the east end zone.

I recall Tomcat and his bunch of merry men took the goal post right out of the stadium and proceeded east on Euclid Ave.

Good times.

It was the crossbar from the west end zone. And we took across the quad, past Bird Library and down Walnut Place to Fayette.

Cutting a crossbar from 1978 is very difficult. Especially with the limited tools we had available back then.

It was a minor miracle we cut it once, let alone the 4 cuts we got done.
