JMA Dome turns 45: Looking back at how this icon came to be

It was the crossbar from the west end zone. And we took across the quad, past Bird Library and down Walnut Place to Fayette.

Cutting a crossbar from 1978 is very difficult. Especially with the limited tools we had available back then.

It was a minor miracle we cut it once, let alone the 4 cuts we got done.

I was there. I was 8. Never experienced anything like that up to that point. Still have all the stuff we came home with.

How many of us attended the last game at Archbold? I’ll start it as #1

I was at last game in Archy with my dad and first game at the dome. I worked at Upstate Med and every work day took lunch walk to watch Archy come down and Dome go up .

i was never a fan of CARRIER DOME cuz the place had no AC and then moved all those jobs elsewhere. yet to this day still i never call it the JMA.
