Joe Filardi

Yes, I think he did some track. Not sure about baseball at Syracuse. Maybe in high school.
Let's get in the spirit:

SU athletes to play both football and lacrosse. I will start ... (I am sure there are more)
  • Jim Brown
  • John Mackey
  • Gerhard Schwedes
  • Jeff Lowe
I remember Jovan Miller came to SU with the potential/intent to play both, but I do not believe it came to fruition.

Current TE Wyatt Bowman also appears to have the potential, as he was a top 25 lax recruit, but he is focused solely on football.

It used to happen all the time.

Some prominent ones you missed…

Jim Ridlon
Cliff Ensley
Roy Simmons Sr

Roy Simmons Sr coached both, and boxing. But I don't think he played here.

Edit: to correct myself. He started at the University of Chicago but later came to SU. Not only did he play football (QB) and lacrosse, he also played baseball and basketball and was on the boxing team [per his Wikipedia page]. FIVE sports?

Wyatt Bowman was a UNC lacrosse commit until he de-committed to commit to Syracuse football. Based on friends who know the family it is uncertain if he will ever play lax.

So if Filardi (a walk on lacrosse player) plays does that mean Belin, Carney and Williams all suck? Because if so, with Collins as is, wow our qb room is beyond repair. We’ll need two portals next year. Oy vey

I wouldn't lump that label on Belin so quickly. He is an instinctive playmaker, and could [emphasis on "could"] prove to be a viable QB down the road, despite his short stature.

But he also might end up being a candidate for a position switch.

I wouldn't read too much into this for him, at least.

People here (and everywhere) make way too many hasty judgements on QBs (at all levels):
  • Some heat up quick and never let up (Dungey/SU, Dan Marino, Ben Roethlisberger. Jim Kelly)
  • Some take some time, but get there (Nassib/SU, Josh Allen, Drew Brees, Ton Brady)
  • Some start like a comet and eventually fade (RGIII, Cam Newton, Greg Cook)
  • Some never get there (Josh Rosen, JaMarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Heath Schuler, Todd Blackledge)
No reason for a kid like Belin to make a snap judgement based on Steve Angeli's injury.

Ah... the confluence of NCAA and boxing. I can only imagine SEC judges (favoritism) and ACC judges (incompetence). B1G boxing between Iowa and Purdue... no actual punches thrown... just a lot of looking at each other between their arms held strategically for defensive purposes...

It’s not a playbook thing for either. Filardi has more arm upside than Luke. I’m glad we’re opening things up. Let’s see what we got in the QB room. We know Rickie ain’t it.
Fran has been dropping Joe's name since this summer. He said that he throws the best ball of all the QB's.

Contrary to what is written above, I believe that he is on FB scholly. Not a walk on.

"I'm technically a walk-on for the football team and on scholarship for lacrosse," Filardi said. "It definitely felt really good. It was a goal of mine. I wanted to stay loyal to the Syracuse lacrosse coaches because they're great and they recruited me really hard. They really wanted me and that's what made me choose them. I just loved everything about the school. So given the football opportunity, it just felt great I could do both sports I've loved my whole life at one spot."
