Joe Filardi

I dont think people really watched how he played and just saw the passing. He was nervous for sure and inaccurate. But he did a bunch of things right that dont show in the stats given how bad our protection is,

What are the excuses when the protection is good?, because the protection is not always bad.

He's an undersized true freshman that was running scout team stuff just prior. He threw like he was very nervous and his head was spinning which is understandable. Hard to garner too much definitively on his future at QB from what we have seen thus far. Wish he could play in an easier game against an easier defense and us having a healthier o-line. It is what it is I guess.

Agree. Looked a lot more composed against Miami. I think it is a no-brainer to give him PT against ND. I think I would start Collins and have him on a short leash before Filardi gets some PT.

I thought same. The things he did wrong -- namely accuracy -- shouldn't be that bad again. I chalked it up to first game and a lack of timing with guys he's barely played with. He made the right reads and decisions at least...

This ^, your talking about a True frosh lax scholarship player who thought his chances at starting at QB were as good as someone from this board getting his 1st start (as a true freshman) in primetime vs a Bill Belichick defense. What exactly did people think was gonna happen? This isn't Donovan Mcnabb in his rookie season were talking about here.

Filardi gets ND, Carney gets BC (hopefully).

Live fire tryout, get stuff on tape. See how they prep, exhibit leadership, handle the pressure.

Live game reps are better than running scout team.
This is what I heard from a reliable source. Carney starts against BC...ND, probably Collins with a dash of Filadi??

Part of building culture is keeping your promises and managing expectations. Fran made a promise to Luke and his parents that he would red-shirt Luke this year. Promise kept! As a result, I'm reasonably sure you won't see Luke in the portal.

If all this is true, I think that helps explain why play calls were so limited for Luke. If he throws the ball all over the yard, fans would be clamoring why he didn't play more. Temper expectations by having him hand the ball off in his limited playing time. I'm looking forward to his start against BC.

And Donovan was a RS Frosh...

STILL can't believe Collins is so bad he gets beat out by a true freshman walk-on. I wonder what Brian Kelly said to Fran prior to Collins' transfer. Fran got fleeced!
"Trust me ..."

I’ve thought the same thing. Hope Carney impresses when we see him again

I figured as much about the redshirt even though most posters seemed to say redshirts don't matter, burn it. But if the kid came in with the plan of redshirting and was sold on that well...

But I can't say i agree with not giving him much to do in a game just because he's redshirting. That doesn't make sense to me. You play to win and you and him both want to get him valuable experience. And If he's good and plays good then maybe he changes his mind and wants to play. So not sure i would buy that the reason he didn't have much of a workload is solely because of the redshirting thing.
