John Scott Jr: New AHC, Defensive run game coordinator and DL Coach

Another Western Carolina alum. Looks like he was a defensive coach in 2006 when Fran was a player. Also coached under Muschamp for a year. I'd guess he got a good recommendation from him. Doesn't seem to have coached the last couple of years? *Edited* He's been at Clemson as a staff assistant the last couple of years as Apdaly pointed out.

Heard he’s a pretty good d-line coach and not the best recruiter (Fran can make up for that part) hopefully he can generate us some sacks.

Makes sense. Was not thinking as much about calling the shots over our new DC but rather just perhaps hoping the two new coaches can work from an authority dynamic. Typically the AHC is paired to one of the 3 coordinator positions isn't it?Tacking an AHC to a positional coach who technically reports to the DC just seems like it could create issues. Maybe not though. Fran is the CEO. He needs to make sure the pieces fit and presumably he does or this hire doesn't happen. Lots of new quality coaching seems to be getting added. That's a good thing.

I’d say his title will include coaching the interior defensive line. Working with DC on game plans to stop the run. Also working with Fran as AHC on whole team issues.
Definitely sets himself up for a bigger promotion if our defense turns it around.

Hawkins, Kehres and Fran can recruit well enough hopefully. I'll take some in house coaches that can actually coach better than they recruit at this point as I'm sure you and many agree. Too many position groups last season showed no improvement of even regression but baseline talent level is much improved. If we have guys in place to build on that everyone here will be better for it.

Presume just adfing titles to get money right. No way you let anyone call shots over Kehres given his resume and results.

Uh, which side of the ball? Because offense has the potential to be a lot better than most all of Dino’s teams.

On defense we have some good pieces with experience. We rotate a lot of players through on defense and that helps. I think with whatever scheme we were using it didn’t help highlight strengths of any of our players.
