John Scott Jr: New AHC, Defensive run game coordinator and DL Coach

Uh, which side of the ball? Because offense has the potential to be a lot better than most all of Dino’s teams.

On defense we have some good pieces with experience. We rotate a lot of players through on defense and that helps. I think with whatever scheme we were using it didn’t help highlight strengths of any of our players.

We are talking about the D. What pieces?

Technically, we have no production coming back from the DL. If you move David O to DE then there is that. IMO he made a lot of mistakes last year, but that doesn't mean he cannot make a jump this year. The rest of the DL we have no clue what we have yet.

At LB we have AD, Bryant, and Tremble. I was not a fan of Bryant last year. The other two guys I like. At best we are still young and raw here.

CB IMO is the best unit. Samuel, Peal, Kerr.

If we play 3 Ss who will they be? Long showed promise so he should fill in one spot. What do we even have here? The fact that Buxton (who IMO was our weakest link) was still getting most of the PT this year is a concern for the talent level at S IMO.

Everyone is looking for quality DL in the portal. I don't expect to see us get anyone significant there. I think we can get nice pieces at LB and S though.

But back to the point, we had some quality kids Dino's last season. We will have to wait to see where these 2026 kids end the year to fully compare. But as of right now one cannot say that the talent is improved since most of these kids have not even played yet.

I think we need a stud Dt 1 stud de which ain’t cheap need a couple safety’s and a range lb like a Barron. Hoping we get a few Toledo guys to help coach on the field as they can help everyone learn that system. Need olinemen and hoping oline coach can fix the rest and backup qb who can throw the ball. Spend the money on the defense and qb.

Rain man!!! One of my all time faves (loved the sonics) and some of the best, peak Reebok shoes along with the AI's.
I lived in Seattle for three years during the Kemp/grunge first half of the 90s. They were such a fun team to watch. I got to see them play in person against Shaq/Orlando, Shaq got ejected, place was a madhouse

Yeah DL isn’t cheap, but we gotta do better than guys like Rooks etc in this portal.

Isn't that Shawn Kemp?

Don’t know how he’ll materialize but he was in high demand and we had to beat out a couple SEC/ACC schools to get him. Kudos to Fran and Wildhack.
I would like to know if we beat them out for his services at the same title, or as they were pursuing him at a lesser title and we gave him a better one?

I’m a little confused…or I missed something (or, both!). Do we have two DL coaches now? Co-coaches, or one that works more on pass defense and the other on rushing defense? Is this “a thing” now, as far as coaching? Help, please.

Elijah Robinson and Nick Williams were the DL coaches last year so nothing too different structurally.

Not sure what the other teams were offering as far as titles but we were more than competitive with them from a financial standpoint from what I understand

You have your best DL coming back from injury in Perry, that's where you start.
He should do well in an attacking defense.

Is he though? We have seen him have a bigger impact on O than D during his time here.

I know it is a board fact that he is a great DT but we haven’t seen it in games yet.

All this guys jobs have been short duration. Think Pedo St was his longest stint 2020-2022. Anyone know if his units have performed?

It reads like a typical journeyman Dline coach.
He did crush it at PedState. He had Oweh and Toney get drafted in the 1st round in the same year. Also coached Mustipher, Lukerta, and Ebiketis.
To me it's looks like he tried to jump to the NFL after the 3 years at PedState and it did not go well so he ended up at Clemson and now us.
To me I feel this is the hire we NEED to balance out all the recuriting experts/new coches we have.

The more I look, the more I think we should've done better.

It does seem like he was given a lot of titles considering his resume/he was a volunteer the past 2 years.

As long as we have the money to fill in the rest of the spots (especially STs), it doesn't really matter.

Typically a DL coach is more of a recruiter than a coach, so it does seem odd to pay more for a coach before knowing what we can get at LB, DB, and STs.

I just hope we didn't waste our last bullets on him if there's another assistant stud we could have brought in, either from a coaching or recruiting perspective.

It seems like the DC will be the LB coach as well. In my opinion
