Johntay Cook transferring to Ole Miss

Cook lead the team in drops and fumbles too. And couldn’t line up in the right spot half the time. Ole miss is also in some shambles right now given their transfers out. Their fans already want to can their brand new head coach if you read their message boards.

I hear you on Gill. I’m waiting for judgment until I see the performance in fall. I’ll be curious how both do in the SEC. I’m more optimistic than others and think we will be fine at WR.

to me OL will make or break the season personally. We need our young guys to be ready.

I’ll bet he wasn’t first in drops per targets. I saw kids like DWilliams drop easy passes and was barely thrown the ball. If a kid struggles with where to line up then you coach him up. Even with Cooks ‘negatives’ he was still CUSE’s best wide out. Now I can agree it might be addition by subtraction but he’s still a talent loss and will put up numbers at Ole Miss.

I’m more curious to see what Gill does day in day out in the SEC because he struggled against Tennessee.

Toney didn’t prove anything for Miami either and he’s a darling. Calvin is legit. He will have a big impact at WR (I hope). Others could too.

For a FR WR having 600 yards is a really good year. That will have you near the top nationally. Something like Gill's 2024 is what we should expect if Clavin is legit. That was 4th on the team that year. We cannot have that be our top number next year.

Surprised it took this long. Heard this was likely back in Sept. Just not a great fit even before the Angeli injury. SU will be adding a portal WR, possibly 2.
With Ole Miss taking both of our starting wide receivers...This tells you how good our Wide Receiver position was last year. Both of those guys can make plays. With a good offensive line, and a QB who can deliver the rock...these guys should have big years in the SEC! It will be interesting to see what they do.

I dont know who will end up our WR1, but i guarantee that person will have more than 600 yds receiving

I think that should be expected, but tough to but that high of expectations on a true Freshman, especially when he’s not with the team during winter workouts, sitting the bench at Boston Coll. I know his side had reservations, but i’ll leave it at that. Would be a good time to get acclimated to college and focus on that next year if he wants.

I just think we are hoping and preying someone steps up. Gill would have been the guy I woulda paid. Fran taking a big hope and a prair.

Really? Tell me who is our #1 WR? Darien Williams? I have high hopes for him, but he hasn’t proven anything yet. Steve will make everyone better, but i don’t think it’s a stretch to say we took a hit at WR.
I think Calvin and Elijah Moore will be 1-2. Tyshawn slot. Boobie outten and umari rounding out the 2 deep. Expect a lot more 1-2 and 1-3 packages this year

Not sure we really improved in paper in the receiver room, but clearly cooks background isn’t so bad that a big name school wasn’t willing to work with him. Oh well, DART might mean something one day i guess

Spend the money in the trenches.
Do we even have our sights set on anyone in the trenches? I haven’t heard of a single OL visitor and I’m pretty certain we only have had one DE on campus so far. The good players are disappearing quickly.

Oh well indeed.

Yeah you didn’t hear, we’re getting Rueben Bain Jr and Akheem Mesidor in the portal instead of going to the NFL draft. They made several acquisitions in the spring portal last season on the offensive line of high ceiling guys and made some additions at DT and edge rusher in the portal this time which includes high ceiling guys. And isn’t this a crazy concept they actually have guys developing they recruited out of high school. Syracuse lost very little to the portal from the trenches and that is by design.

I wasn’t thrilled to lose Gill or Cook. But I do trust Syracuse ability to develop wide receivers and pretty much any other skilled position. The wide receiver room has several high ceiling guys in it and with a serviceable QB and better offensive line, I’m confident they will produce. The trenches, QB who can run an offense consistently, and defensive play calling is the 3 keys to next season.

But the d line and o line were terrible, like really really terrible. If there was real talent there I’m not sure where it was hiding

And the people who were in charge of those position groups are gone. It wasn’t exactly a talent issue. It obviously didn’t help that we didn’t have a serviceable QB. Though when Fran somewhat micromanaged the situation (which he knows he can’t do long term for the effectiveness of the program) most specifically on defense, they actually gave Pittsburgh and Miami offensive line a ton of trouble. Especially, Miami, they actually had a great game plan defensively and was winning the trenches in the first 27 minutes, but without the ability to throw the ball they really had no chance once Miami scored.

We signed the kid from UCLA that’s all I’m aware of
