Jon Bol Ajak

Abject poverty, hunger, homelessness, just trying to find a way to live. Maybe he had found a place to sleep at Newhouse? Sounds like Boeheim had been trying to help him. I am so saddened and angered by his plight and by ****. Guess I can’t say it on the bball board.

Very sad. One thing I always respected about JB was his dedication to his players even after they left the university. He always helped them finish their degrees. Sounds like JBA was in a really bad situation. With all the successful SU athletes out there in the real world it’s too bad they couldn’t set up a place in Syracuse for troubled former athletes to get back on their feet.

So sad. I saw a DO story a while back about a trespassing at Newhouse and I thought it was him. But didn’t want to rumor monger. It’s sad it was actually him.

yeah, he actually randomly showed up at one of my classes in February because the teacher is like a friend of his or has been trying to help him, I'm not to sure, right around the 2nd trespassing charge, didnt fully recognize that it was him. Nice guy when I talked to him, but you could definitely tell he had some problems, sad story all around.

this was notably not in Newhouse, this was a history class in maxwell.

Talking to some people tonight, they tried but the person has to understand that he wants the help. I don't know if I said that correctly. It's a tough situation.
I've a family member who has dealt with challenges and you are spot on with that framing. Sometimes that takes time.

Very sad, he has a college degree so one would hope he could’ve figured out something to do for full time work.
I wonder if it's murky because his student visa expired. Not exactly sure how work eligibility for non citizens work. Don't they need that special Visa that now cost $100K.

You usually get 3 years of work permit after graduating

This is heartbreaking. I've met him and he seems like a good guy. Perhaps a confused kid in some ways, but who wouldn't be after going through the things that he has? I hate that this feels like we are throwing him away.

Good luck, Jon Bol. May life be easier wherever you find yourself next.

Plenty wrong with the basketball program, but to lay blame on them for JBA’s issues without knowing what help they have tried to give him is a bit much.
Fran has a 60 day program where graduating players have jobs in their field of study. He’s been out of school for more than three years. You rarely ever heard JB talk about graduating and preparing kids for life. His concern was keeping players eligible and was lousy at that. It cost him another probation. Don’t get me started on his total lack of discipline in his program.

Yep we all turned a blind eye to how he ran the program, outside of wins and losses.

Sad story. I recall Bol had a charity where he was raising money for his homeland.
Weird that a kid with a Newhouse Degree can't get a job. Obviously there must be a lot more to the story to get him in this predicament.
